Kaimana Pub Restaurant: Ceviche is a must

I spent 1 week at Tauraa hotel and this restaurant is the hotel restaurant service, the food was excellent, specially differents fishes and preparation.They also has a small family hotel beside the restaurant, excellent location at the main street, they play only local music and also they have live show and music. The best in town Tuna Ceviche (typical raw fish mix with tomatoe, cilanter, onion, cooked with lemon juice) and all local different fishes preparation.Excellent price v/s quality relation.

The Empanada Stand: Great Place!

Located on Main Street in Hanga Roa is a little empanada stand. The food was cheap and delicious, all homemade empanadas. Ask for the owners special homemade hotsauce! More importantly the owner was super friendly, talkative and really personable. I think we sat here almost everyday and had an empanada. Most of the tourists and locals stopped here sooner or later and we ended up talking to quite a few of them. It was really great.

Tavake, Ariki Nui, Kanahau: Vegetarian food on Easter Island

Being a vegetarian, I was a bit worried about the selection of food that was going to be on offer on Easter Island. I shouldn't have been worried as there were quite a few options available at different restaurants. I ate at the above three restaurants and they had some vegetarian options - mainly pasta etc but they were all very nicely made and came with bread rolls and salsa. Tavake had a set option for 7000 peso's which had bread rolls, salsa, an empanada, soup, choice of pasta, rice or salad, dessert and a drink which was really filling. Ariki Nui and Kanahau both made vegetarian pasta's for me and also had great desserts. I also had cheese empanada's and these really nice bread rolls that you could get from the bakeries there. So all in all, E.I has some great food options there and also several supermarkets which had a good selection of products.

Te Moana Bar: International Atmosphere

Te Moana is a little bit unique in Hanga Roa, as this is basically the only international style "bar-pub-coffeehouse-restaurant" facility. If you go here after sun-down you will most likely bump into the fellow international tourists, mostly those who are not staying in the hotel or on an organized tour. The architecture is "pacific", but the music played is a large variety, including international songs. It is usually packed and sometimes people are sitting on the sidewalks outside, next to the few tables outside. They have all sorts of international food, from Thai soup to Italian Pasta, but also serve all of the typical local food as well. The Tuna sandwhich was very tasty. You can get a coffee or a good beer and they also have several types of short drinks available.

No particular one: Don't Miss The Fresh Seafood!

This isn't a tip for a particular restaurant, there are quite a few in Hanga Roa (a favourite was just by the cinema, but I have forgotten its name, it had Coke advertising on the fron of it).As you would expect on such a tiny island surrounded by sea, the speciality would almost definitely include fish, and yes it does. The raw fish is particularly good, and I never had any problems afterwards. It is worth asking whether the fish is from Easter island or from Chile, as of course the local fish is going to be fresher (well you hope so anyway!). It also feels nicer to be eating local produce.If you are from Chile, you will find Easter Island expensive (perhaps twice the price). If you are from Europe or have just come from French Polynesia (Tahiti), then it will feel quite good value! The Fish

Restaurant La Taverne Du Pecheur: French food was good, but EXPENSIVE!

The Restaurant La Taverne Du Pecheur has an excellent location! It is in Hanga Roa on the corner in front of the main docks (near the dive shops). You can check out the moais peering toward the mainland, and watch the children and surfers fight the waves from the restaurant. The restaurant is small and quaint, and the owner is very animated and fun to watch. The food was very good, however for Easter Island prices, it was expensive. It was worth it, though! :-)

Merahi Ra'a: A Reason To Come Back

Non-touristy restaurant w/ really delicious seafood. You can also watch the sun setting on the ocean if u get one of the outdoor seats. My friend ordered the same dish twice - fresh salmon - and he swore that he would go back to Easter Island just for this meal. I ordered a combo meal that included a rapa nui cake w/ fresh fish. I like it but not as much as the raw-fish dish that they serve. Unfortunately, i cannot remember the names of the dishes.

Restaurante Merahi Ra'a: Recommended By Our Tour Guide

We had a pretty miserable dining experienceat the Playa Pea, so the Merahi Ra'a was truly a delightful surprise. The food was very good. There were 5 at the table and no one had anything but praise for their meal. You could eat inside or out. The service was exceptional. The meals were pretty expensive but fairly typical by Hanga Roa standards. My fish was 5500 pesos and my wife's chicken was 4500. Beer and coke were each 1000. Everything was good, but what stood out was an incredibly strong and very tasty garlic 'butter'. It was great on bread and everyone raved about it. Don't bother brushing your teeth; it won't help.

Ariki te pana: The best empanada in town

Berta Hay a rapanui who is a distant descendant of the supervisor of the english company that grazed here, runs a shop open most days in the main street next door to internet place which has the best empanadas in town.More over she is lovely lady.. Empanadas of Tuna or spinach...
