You just have to taste (or see....) the favorite hot dog in Chile. It is called 'completo' and this hot dog is covered with all stuffing you can even dream of...... It looks......interesting......The house of Pablo Neruda in Valparoiso is absolutely worth a visit. The little village San Pedro de Atacama in the north is full of backbackers, but still with a lot if charm. The desert is very warm during the day and suprisingly cold in the night. The sunset in the Pasific Ocean.....absolutely perfect!

Be sure to see south of Chile. From santiago I took a 9 hour bus south to a small village called 'Pukon'. It's a village that has the best view of the volcano of the VillaRica. The village is very cute on it's own, but you can also go on excursions: such as bike ride to the lakes, climbing the volcanoe (see travelogue) etc. The border with Argentina is very easy to cross, so a recommanded way of traveling is going south (or north - depend on the weather) crossing the border back and forth, to see at the same time a little of Chile and a little of Argentina. From Pukon, we crossed the border to Bariloche and the Argentinian lakes (See my Argenina page). Then back to Chile - to Puerto Varras and Puerto Mont. From there down to Fitz Roy and Purito Moreno (Argentina - see my page for details),Puerto Nataless - where you can start the famous Torres Del Paine trek, and Punta Arenas: where you...

I loved a park named Jorge Alessandri, in Concepcion. It´s a beautiful place, with some trees and a museum. Is very nice and peaceful, with animals and childrens running around. I spent great moments in there! :o)

When you arrive to Chile. Its more than likely you would fly in to Santiago. If you like Sea Food. You must go to the Local Fish Market along Rio Mapocho. Its by Puente Cal Y Canto. The food is Chile stands out like a light house on amphetamines. Its so delicious it makes you plan what you are going to eat the night before.

Allow yourself to explore the smaller towns outside of Santiago. We went to Pucon. Here you must climb to the to p of the volcano 1) Reaching the top of the volcano and looking out over the other side.2) Sliding down the volcano in the snow.3) The sun did not set until 10:30PM. This allowed us to expole durring the day and still have time to go to the beach.

If you are in Chile, you can visit beautiful places like: Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Isla de pascua (eastern island), Laguna San Rafael (St. Raphael's lake), Torres del Paine y San Pedro de Atacama. if you're in Santiago, you absolutely must visit the Museum 'Bellas Artes' or Pre- Colombine Museum, Santa Lucía's Hills, and if you come in winter and like the snow and skiing, don't forget 'Valle Nevado', 'cerro Colorado' or 'Farellones'....AH!, please visit the downtown in Santiago and enjoy his european architecture.

My fiance and I managed to get ourselves very drunk at Cafe Indianapolis (on the Alameda near Universidad de Chile Metro station). We had promised ourselves not to get drunk in a strange city, but we had discovered that barrio Londres Paris was quite safe and we thought 'what the hell, why not?'We spent some time drinking with two chileno gentlemen (Ivan and David) while we brushed up our spanish and they practiced their english. After a couple of hours we were all speaking jibberish.Anthony (the barman) mixed us up some great pisco sours. Four of five pisco sours usually equals intoxication. We had a great time ...

My fondest memory ? That's not so difficult. It's the time I spent with my relatives, especially my Abuelita,(grandmother) She lives in a suburb or Poblacion called Juan XXIII (23). In holland we would call it a ghetto, they call it Home. And Home is was for me too. Chilean people are sensitive and emotional. So we all cried our eyes out several times.
