Porvenir Things to Do

  • View of the town

The best views of the town are from the Cerro Mirador. It can be reached by the road that runs around the bay. One of the local guides drove us around in his van. Lucky for us he spoke some english.

They fixed us lunch, dinner, and breakfast while we were staying at the hotel.
It was all especially prepared for just the two of us .
These meals were without a doubt some of the best that we had on our entire trip.
I would recommend eating here any time of day.

Favorite Dish: The bamboo salad was a real hit.
We had to ask what it was but it was very tastey.

Porvenir Transportation

  • Border crossing

We had a car and driver that took us from Povenir to points south. We wanted to see the most southern part of Chile. We felt so lucky to happen upon this tour while surfing the net.I would recommend this company to anyone. Jaime did a great job.

This isn't what you would call a custom but what ever you want to call it, the days in the spring and summer are long here.
This picture is of a sunset taken around 10:30 pm.

Luggage and bags: Take what you want and you better have some coolers full of food and drinks with you.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Be sure to take a raincoat to keep you dry. You will need clothing for layers as the weather is very changeable.

Photo Equipment: If you run out of film, batteries, or in fact anything at all you won't find it south of Povenir.

Miscellaneous: Be sure to take extra tires and gas with you because you won't see any stations after you leave Povenir.

Porvenir Off The Beaten Path

  • Range of the Guanaco

In Terre del Fuego, you will see many herds of rust colored guanaco. They are closely related to the llama and Alpaca. They remind me of very large deer. They are very fast on their feet which is a good thing since there is a lot of open country here with no place to hide.Native hunters ate them and dressed in their skins. They are left to run free...

  • Angler's paradise

Lago Blanco is a great place for camping and fishing. It is 240km south east of Povenir.Except for some other lone fishermen we had it all to ourselves. The guide was lucky enough to catch a spotted trout for our dinner. If you are very lucky, early in the morning you may spot the condor that lives in the hillsin the background of the picture. It was...

  • A place to spend the night

We spent the night at a house in Cameron. It is about 2 1/2 hrs drive from Povenir and the roads from there either go on south or cross the border into Argentina. It is a very small village with a hand full of houses, a church, and a 2x4 super mercado. There isn't even a gas station in the village.

Some of the best fishing in the world is here in the southern part of Chile.
There are many fishing camps/resorts dotted around.
You can book tours for one day or a month.
