    The living room

    Favorite thing:
That is the living room in the guest house. Just click on the picture to see everything. There are so many paintings, a piano (which sounds well... I checked it) and great furniture. Everything is in a great condition and perfect order.

There is also a lobby which full of paitings from chilenian modern artists and they all have to do with wine ....

The area of the Tarapaca winery

by MEdelmann Updated Jul 1, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The Maipo Valley

    Favorite thing:
The Tarapaca winery has about 2000 hectares of vinyards planted out with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc and Torrontés.
And when I was there they planted out more than 1000 hectares with the same varieties.

Further they are testing new varieties such a Sangiovese (it is the main grape in Chianti wines ) and Syrah/Shiraz.

    Fondest memory:
The picture show a part of this area, which is really huuuge in my opinion. Just click on the picture to see the vineyards, the Maipo river and the hills in the background.

Who is the person on the picture? Simply guess .....

    :-))

    The terrace

    Favorite thing:
Have a look on the terrace of the guest house. It is wonderful to sit here and enjoy a glass of wine. And a breakfast here must be also a great thing ....

It was just wonderful this morning and I could have seat here longer... but then our tour through the winery started and so I had to go.

    The Tarapaca winery

by MEdelmann Updated Jul 1, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The guest house

    Favorite thing:
The winery looks absolutely great and all looks so well cared for. And it is no wonder, they have taken a lot of effort.

Everything looks still perfect. The house, the park, the wine production halls, the caves ....
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Fondest memory:
The building on the photo is neiter the residence of the owner, nor is it old. It was built in a old style and it is used as a guest house. You can rent a room there ...

(and I will do that next time when coming to Chile. So pretty there...)

    Dry plants

    Favorite thing:
This is a photo which shows the landscape which is not irrigated. The grass is dry and brown ...

Just click on the picture to see the cactus and the other plants. They can be overseen very easy because of the drought .....

The landscape didn't look very inviting here.

    Viticulture in Maipo Valley

by MEdelmann Updated Jun 30, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    More vineyards .....

    Favorite thing:
Here are some more vineyards. The irrigated part of the valley is green, the rest (which is not irrigated) is dry. Viticulture can be very difficult under such conditions ....
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Fondest memory:
The Maipo valley is famous because of its great Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlot. Chilenian wines ( and of corse those of Maipo valley) tend to rich aroma and a full body.

    The Maipo River

by MEdelmann Updated Jun 29, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Maipo river

    Favorite thing:
The valley got its name from the same named river. It is only a small one and also contents not much water because all the water is collected to irrigate the vineyards.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    Fondest memory:
The Maipo Valley and all wine regions in Chile are dry in summer because it doesn´t rain .... But water is very essential to make good wines. The content of water decides the aromas and acidic elements of a wine ...

If you click on the picture you see the river in the middle and the road to the "Tarapaca"-winery on the left
