L´Provenza: Nice lunch near Cousino Macur Winery
  • Satisfaction:
  • This is a 20 minute walk from the winery, Cousino Macur. It´s in a house and quite quaint. We enjoyed our lunch. They have a fixed menu for about $5 - $6 which includes a soup, meal, juice or drink, dessert. It´s quite sweet and off the beaten path in Santiago. We enjoyed a bottle of wine we purchased at the winery with lunch here.

La Diablesse restaurant: French cuisine in Santiago, Chile
  • Satisfaction:
  • Located in Yungay, a wonderful neighborhood where a lot of artists reside, and 3 streets away from the Matucana 100 theater, not far from the Artequin museum (this building was designed for the International exhibition in 1889 and brought from France) and the Quinta Normal park, La Diablesse offers French and International food. Managed by a Frenchman, the cuisine is influenced by the flavors from the South of France, he is also an enologist so he can recommend a good wine to go with the food. The lunch menu costs 3500 pesos (around 6 USD) and includes entree, main course, dessert and soda.

Coq au vin, magret de canard, creme brulee, marquise au chocolat. The food is very well prepared and presented

  • Satisfaction:
  • On the south side of the Plaza De Arrmas is this restaurant that specializes in local cuisine.

    Pastel de Choclo

This is similar to a "chicken pot pie" except that the crust is a creamed corn. Absolutely delicious!

Bali Hai: Bali Hai Restaurant and Show
  • Satisfaction:
  • For our first wedding anniversary we decided to go to the Bali Hai Restaurant in Santiago to check it out. The restaurant really caters to foreign tourists (either couples up to larger tour groups).

We enjoyed the Chile culture show but we thought the food could have been a lot better.

You need to make a reservation by calling the restaurant or online.

There is a fixed price with several options you can choose from. You have a drink, appetizer, main, dessert and coffee or tea. This costs 18,500 pesos per person.

Cafe Melba: Cafe Melba - El Bosque Norte area
  • Satisfaction:
  • Cafe Melba is a great place for lunch during the week or brunch on weekends. It is owned by New Zealander Dell Taylor and so the fare is International. It is the only place I know of where you can get a bowl latte that tastes good and Egg´s bene too. There is indoor and outdoor seating.

I love the Egg´s Benedict or the Hue Que? Egg dish.

our dear VT friend, iiguana (Jorge) organised to meet us and have a lovely meal at the very cool EL TORO restaurant, located in the exciting area of Bellavista. Jorge had told us that it was quite a popular haunt for Santiago's "in" crowd... people like celebrities, artists, actors etc. even though it can play host to such people, the restaurant itself is very casual, with cool features such as paper menus and paper tablecloths with crayons, so you can write on your tablecloth! we sat outside, with a reserved table (recommended for large parties), and outside was lovely. the food was great as well, i enjoyed my meal, as did everyone in our group.

Coco Loco and Ocean Pacific: simply fresh and delicious seafoof
  • Satisfaction:
  • I had stayed there few years back on business, it is in the financial center of Santiago Las Condes district, so restos are all over around you.New Year you might reserved in advance for the top restos.
My favorite there is Coco Loco, Avda. El Bosque Norte , once there you will see a whole range of restaurant up and down this avenue, also try Cafe Melba, same spot.

If you can get away from the Las Condes area ,try this marvelous resto decorated like a aquarium inside, you feel you are in a boat, the seafood is excellenlty fresh, going down with a bottle of chilean chardonnay uhyummy!!
Ocean Pacific, at Ricardo Cumming, 221, Barrio Brazil. I was taken there by the locals and it was a repeat everytime in the city. google for the location.

congrio fish with vegetables and a special sauce, with good chilean chardonnay wine! Also, a shrimp marinated with olives at Ocean Pacific that was sublime.

T.G.I. Friday's is another place we went to with the entire team since they had a huge room waiting just for us on the second floor. I wasn't too thrilled about going to an American restaurant in Chile, but at least since there aren't any T.G.I. Friday's in Quebec, it's not like I go there all the time. Things started out pretty nicely since the food came pretty quickly and our meal was good. When time came to pay the bill, however, we were in for a bit of a suprise - instead of giving us one bill per table as most restaurants will do, they had put everything on the same bill!! They gave us some menus to look at so we could figure out how much we owed and it took over an hour to collect the money from everybody, and then do a second round because some people had obviously miscalculated. The poor waitresses seemed completely distraught and were very grateful that I could translate some of the discussions and let them know what was going on - they even hugged me when we finally got the right amount of money and were able to leave!

Pub Licity: A tex-mex sports bar in Las Condes

    Licity

During the competition, all athletes were required to eat dinner together and of course there weren't tons of restaurants in the Las Condes area that could fit a group of over 60 people. One night we ended up going to Pub Licity, which is sort of a Tex-Mex sports bar. The food was alright - I had the Mexica club and although it didn't really taste Mexican, it was still nice and fresh. The atmosphere was the same kind you'd find in any sports bar/restaurant, with big flatscreen TVs everywhere and lots of people coming in for happy hour. Of all the places we went to with the team, this is probably where service was the most efficient - they were quick to take our order, bring the food and bring the tab. I wouldn't necessarily put it at the top of my list of places where to eat in Santiago, but if you're looking for something fast and simple, it might do the trick!

Pardo's Chicken: Peruvian roasted chicken in Chile!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I'd never heard of Pardo's Chicken before, but apparently it's fairly well known since they have restaurants in different countries. We headed over there for our last team dinner once the competition was over. We were immediately greeted with a great big smile by the cook and by the delicious smell of roasting chicken! As there were over 60 of us, we had agreed to only eat chicken to make it easier on the staff, but apparently that wasn't easy enough. Our poor waiter was totally confused, forgetting to take some tables' order, forgetting drinks, plates, chicken, you name it! As we were all in a pretty good mood we didn't mind too much, especially since it was worth the wait: the chicken was very, very good - there was some sort of fresh herbs flavour to it that made it stand out from all other roasted chicken I've had before. The fries were good and the salad was simple but generously covered with thick slices of avocado. The meal came down to about US$6 per person, including a soft drink. It was a nice way to end this very special week!

You can't go wrong with the chicken!
