My transfer man/tour guide had recommended I go to the Market Place for lunch on my first day in Santiago - but nobody could understand me when I asked for directions while trying to get there! I suggest you use the Spanish term for it? Mercado of something like that? I can't quite recall! ;-)
It is also a stop for the hop-on hop-off bus for Santiago (which my guide/transfer man didn't recommend coz he said tourists he had recommended it to had complained the narration system was always broken down).
But be forwared - I was also most often sent in the opposite direction to where I wanted to go to in Santiago when enquired in English from people who said they could speak English!

This Icecream bar/cafe is one my favourite places. There's a wide range of flavours to choose from. I loved spending an afternoon relaxing there and enjoy a sundae. You can order sandwiches and salads if you're seeking an healthy alternative and there are also milk shakes and cakes.
I paid around 4000-5000 CLP (November 2008) for an icecream sundae.

This is Sanitago's top vegetarian restaurant where I had a few meals there during my stays in Santiago. I loved the food and appreciated the vegetarian cuisine and the wide range of choices available.
Favorite Dish: I thorougly enjoyed the Gardens Choice Platter and the Mexican Burritas.
The chocolate cheescake was my favourite desert.
I paid 10,000 CLP (November 2008) for a main course with drinks and coffee included.

Coquinaria is an outstanding lunch venue located in the basement area of the new W hotel building. It is both a restaurant/cafe and a gourmet market with fresh cheeses, ham, chocolates and pasta, amongst other delicacies.
There is both indoor and outdoor dining available.
Favorite Dish: I have been working my way through the menu and am yet to have something that I didn't like. A favourite is the Chicken and Prawn salad or one of the sandwiches with the french fries done in a little paper cone.

Azul Profundo is a little gem sitting in the heart of Bellavista district of Providencia. The place is decorated in all sorts of ocean paraphernalia makingit a visual interesting dining experience. The food though is the main reason to come here. The dishes are fantastic although you might need to wait a little for them to arrive if the restaurant is full. There are a few "lifesaver" dishes for those accompanying that aren't so into seafood.
Favorite Dish: We realy enjoyed the Tabla del Mar which was a grilled seafood (salmon, shrimps, scallops, clams, squid rings) extravaganza accompanied with fried onions and corguettes. We ordered this as an entree to share along with the crumbed shrimp and squid. Both dishes were a hit.
For my main I enjoyed a perfectly confectioned Easter Island Tuna Steak which I would highly recommend. Of the dishes my friends had they really enjoyed the Congrio and Tilapia fish but the person who had the Mako shark found it a little dry.
The restaurant has a large wine selection to accompany the meal and served fantastic natural juices (pineapple and raspberry when we were there).

The restraunt is a mix of local seafood, much of it coming from Easter Island. The cook comes from the Basque region, and also mixes those specialities in with the rest.
I really enjoy good dining and sampling local cuisine. If you do too, I would highly recommend Infante 51.
Favorite Dish: I had several excellent dishes:
1. Ventressa - a seared tuna variety, found off Easter Island with a light olive oil garlic sauce.
2. Toremo - a white fish also from Easter Island. I had this one without any accompanyment in order to get the flavor. It was outstanding.

The food was considered local Chilean. It was a nicely appointed restaurant, lovely statues and decorations. The staff did not speak English well so elected another patron to help us order the right foods. We left it up to the waiter to count out the correct Chilean pecos for dinner, we had great failth in his honesty.
Favorite Dish: We all had fish and it all the dishes were excellent

Backstage is the Chilean equivalent of the Hard Rock Café, except it offers a much bigger menu. The food ranges from North American specialties to standard Chilean meals, including some Asian dishes. The drink list is just as extensive. Prices can be slightly higher than neighboring restaurants. There is ample seating and a non-smoking section. Backstage offers live music on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (sometimes Wednesdays as well).

This restaurant is located just right off Escuela Militar Metro station. It serves good Chilean dishes at reasonable price (since it doesn't target towards tourists). The outside patio is also a good spot for people-watching, especially in the morning when this area can be extremely chaotic! Try 'menu of the day', which comes in full-course; soup or salad, entree, and dessert. I had Sopa de Caracoles, Lomito a la Chilena con Pure (see pics) and homemade ice-cream...all of them are nice!!

This is a 20 minute walk from the winery, Cousino Macur. It´s in a house and quite quaint. We enjoyed our lunch. They have a fixed menu for about $5 - $6 which includes a soup, meal, juice or drink, dessert. It´s quite sweet and off the beaten path in Santiago. We enjoyed a bottle of wine we purchased at the winery with lunch here.
