Nueva York st is the heart of the financial district of Santiago. Hence of Chile. It is where the Stock Market is and where all the stock brokers have their offices. But maybe that's not even interesting.
What I like about this street is the building. Old 19th and 20th century buildings, showing how Santiago must have been in the early 1900's. They are a very good look of how a South American capital must have been like then.
So take a walk around, take pictures, but most important, take a look and imagine.

This building is Santiago's Stock Exchange. It's like Wall Street, but in Santiago. Funny, the street by it's side is called Nueva York.
The building itself is quite beautiful, and it was built in the 19th century.

Calle Nueva York & Bolsa de Comercio
If the charming cobblestoned streets of Barrio Paris-Londres are reminescent of the Old World, Calle Nueva York definitely has more to do with The Big Apple! Indeed, at the corner of calle La Moneda and Nueva York, you'll find a scene that is somewhat similar to Times Square in New York City. "Wall Street" awaits at the corner of calle La Moneda and La Bolsa, where you'll find Santiago's Stock Market. La Bolsa de Comercio de Santiago was created on November 27, 1893. The building in which it currently is located dates back to 1917, and along with the Correo Central and Biblioteca Nacional, it is one of the most architecturally interesting buildings in the city. I didn't get to go in but I later found out that from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays, it is possible to go inside and watch the stock market action - all you need to do is show your passport!
