Is the most common way to go around the city but not the best, because the busses are not really nice, some of them are old and here in Chile the people drive like in the jungle... but is one of the cheapest and common ways to go.

You can catch the busses almost everywhere you just have to show your hand or finger to make the busses stop. The cost is cheap (0,56 cents aprox).
To get down you just have to ask the driver to stop.To get down you just have to ask the driver to stop.

When in Antofagasta there is a wide variety of public transportation, consisting of extremely cheap and scary buses driven by certified psychopaths, taxis (identified by the black paint and yellow roof) and collectivos (black cars with a placard on the top). The collectivos are cheap (about $US 0.50 fixed rate) but travel prescribed routes, so you just sort of get in and see where it takes you.

Ask for rates from the airport. By meter (the sucker way to travel) it is about $US25, but by flat rate it is about $9
