During our stay in Pisco Elqui, we joined several outdoor activities offered by the tour operator "Turismo Migrantes." We did a downhill tour by bike, where we got to know the villages until the very end of the Elqui Valley and also the Pisco distillery Los Nichos- definitely recommendable. The path was not difficult and the mountainbikes of best quality.
But my favourite tour was a horesback riding at night, combined with an astronomical excursion. The horses took us towards the mountains(we both had no experience on horseback, which was no problem) where we had a campfire, we shared a glass of pisco sour and did stargazing, the guide explained us some of the constellations. The atmosphere was great- very relaxed and almost homelike.
The reasons why I definitely recommend the agency Migrantes are their entertaining and at the same time informative excursions and the friendly guides with english knowledge.

On the road between La Serena and Vicuña, just before arriving in Vicuña at about Km 56 there is a small town called Gualliguaica and the Embalse Puclaro (Puclaro Dam). The Dam is worth a visit for its stunning views down the valley. The Embalse Puclaro is a place where water sports can be done also (water skiing, windsurfing etc.).
On your way to Pisco Elqui from La Serena I recommend a stopover at the Embalse Puclaro to check it out.
