  • Best Sandwiches in Town

    La Serena Restaurants

As expected the Sandwiches are always amazing, really great service from the actual owners, who are an Australian couple who now live in Chile. The location is really convenient as it´s a block and a half from the bus terminal and across the road from the big mall. The fresh produce in Chile is great, so make sure you ask for extra Avocado, which is...

  • The Lighthouse

    Isla Damas Things to Do

The best view of the island can be accomplished if you climb the huge rock where the lighthouse stands. It's an easy climb, and although there is a sign telling you not to trespass, then again, who will tell you not to? Climb it, take pictures, and go back down again. And please, don't play with the lighthouse. It's there for a reason. Take care of...

  • Beach #3

    Isla Damas Things to Do

Last, but definately not least. This is, according to me (and everybody I went to the island with) the best beach on the island. It's definately one of the best beaches I've seen in Chile. Simply amazing. And calm. We were the only ones there.

  • Beach #2

    Isla Damas Things to Do

From the campsite to the west (take your right at the whalebone), you'll find this beach which is surrounded by sea. Impressive. The picture shows the beach with low tides. Imagine it with high tides. A strip of white sand surrounded by ocean...

    Coquimbo Transportation

This is one of the most popular types of transport within the city and also between La Serena and Coquimbo. These are called "MICROS", there are many of them with different routes that covers almost the whole city. They stop everywhere, every minute. This is a good way to get to know better a city like Coquimbo. Is also very cheap: US$0.50

  • Mamalluca Observatory

    Vicuña Things to Do

Unfortunately when I was in the Elqui Valley a visit to the Mamalluca Observatory didn´t fit in well with our schedule as we had decided to stay only in Pisco Elqui further up the valley and not in Vicuña. For those with an extra night to stay in Vicuña it would seem worthwhile visiting the observatory as the area is well known for its clear...

  • Embalse Puclaro

    Vicuña Things to Do

On the road between La Serena and Vicuña, just before arriving in Vicuña at about Km 56 there is a small town called Gualliguaica and the Embalse Puclaro (Puclaro Dam). The Dam is worth a visit for its stunning views down the valley. The Embalse Puclaro is a place where water sports can be done also (water skiing, windsurfing etc.).

  • Gabriela Mistral Museum

    Vicuña Things to Do

As Vicuña is the birthplace of Gabriela Mistral and that she won a Nobel Prize for Literature we thought it would be interesting to go to the museum built in her honor. The museum contained a number of her works and had information and artefacts from her life. The explanations for everything were only in Spanish.Open Monday to Saturday from 10:00...

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I found this small church magnificent. Directly on the beach, you can hear and see the sea from the inside! It's located a little bit out of village in direction of Punta Hueso (south), but really worth a small promenade!
