The most distinctive volcano in the region is the Osorno Volcano located on the shores of Lago Llanquihue. It is possible to take excursions walking or hiking up the volcano or around the base. Tour companies can organise this, usually from Puerto Varas.

Osorno is located in the heart of the dairy farming region of Chile. 70% of Chile´s milk production is produced in the Lakes Region. When I travel to Osorno it is usually for work and so I find myself visiting Dairy Farms in the region. There is one agricultural show in Osorno each year called SagoFisur which is around November.

The churches in Osorno are very un-churchlike. They resemble 1960s or 70s functionalist buildings, and you have to wonder what the architect was thinking. We visited the church on the main square, which, to us, was quite strikingly ugly from the outside. The interior wasn't much better. We chatted to a barman later on and he seemed to think the churches were nice, so perhaps they grow on you after a while.

The cathedral located on the plaza has quite unusual architecture. You can see the spire from around the city which acts as a good guideline to find the plaza if you are lost.
