BouleBar Osorno

Boule Bar is the only place I have been to in the evening that was more a bar than a restaurant. They have pizzas and ¨tablas¨that can be shared while you are drinking. Lots of cocktails to try. Don´t forget to try the typical Chilean drink - Pisco Sour.

Dress Code: Anything goes from what I can tell.

Tipping
kiwigal_1 profile photo
kiwigal_1 1092 reviews

In Chile the standard tip in a restaurant is 10% which is sometimes added onto the bill but more often than not you need to leave behind on the table. If paying by credit card you can ask to add the tip to the bill and indicate the standard 10%.

Do not tip taxis.

If you drive a car in Chile, then there are places where you can park for free but there may be a man or woman "helping" you to park (such as near the plaza de armas in Osorno). This person works for tips. They can wash your car while you are away usually also. The tip you pay them should be anything from 200 pesos or more depending on the length of time you stay. I usually pay around 500 pesos.

In supermarkets the people who pack your bags only work for tips. They are not paid by the supermarket. Depending on the amount of groceries you could tip anything from 50 cents up to around 500 pesos. The 10% rule is not hard and fast here, just whatever loose change you have.

Warnings and Dangers

Fog
kiwigal_1 profile photo
kiwigal_1 1092 reviews

Osorno in winter mornings is often shrouded in fog. This fog often has the affect of plane delays both in and out of Osorno and also makes visibility difficult on the highways.

To avoid the problem when flying you could book a ticket to Puerto Montt which is an hour south of Osorno. When I have an important meeting to attend in winter I often do this just in case.

When driving in fog please take the appropriate precautions as the roads can be more dangerous.

Luggage and bags: A backpack or suitcase with wheels

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Make sure you bring clothing that is warm and a rain jacket that will keep you dry. The weather in Osorno can be quite wet and so you will need this. I visit dairy farms when I am in Osorno so I bought gumboots when I was there at the Cooprinsem store.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: I have been able to purchase everything I need in Osorno. Currently the hotels don´t supply much in the way of hotel toiletries so better to bring your shampoo etc with you.
