Take a cruise and you will see the beautiful fjords south of Puert Montt, at many places they reminded me of Norway, but here in Chile there are absolutely no people living at the banks of these fjords, no houses, no roads, no electricity-wires, just the wild nature.
Great sunshine and a fine breeze when you are lucky or just haze and fog together with freezing storms when you get a bad day.
Punta Arenas was our next port of call, 2 days south of Puerto Montt and we had all sorts of great and bad weather in these 2 days.

Cruising in the south of Puerto Montt is full of surprises and great and unique landscapes. Just click on my photographs to enlarge them and see the great details of that wonderful landscape. Unfortunatly I did not see any whales, although some of our passengers saw a group of whales coming up to get some fresh air next to the ship and diving instantly again, when recognizing our giant ship.
In any case you will be able to watch penguins and other sea-birds while cruising the fjords of Chile.

Dont miss this nice "monument" made of ancient anchors close to the port of Puerto Montt, just about 200 meters from the place, where you are leaving the port-area. 4 giant anchors of old cargo-ships are arranged there on the square, a great place for your children and maybe also a place to take a photograph when your cruiseship is anchored in the bay.

Collegio San Francisco Javier is an old church and monastery-school in a sidestreet of Puerto Montt, unfortunately the church was locked, when I had been there, but at least the facade of the blue school-building looked great in the old architecture of the 19th century, when the german settlers started to cultivate the land, and monks helped to build up the eduction and religion.

This giant "hat" is in a distance of about 3 hours by cruiseship on your way to the south from Puerto Montt. It is a pity that we did not get any closer because it looked quite interesting with a mountain in the shape of a giant hat and a long and narrow beach next to it - just click on my other photographs to enlarge them and see these funny details !

There is a small exhibition of all sorts of Army-equipment in the park around of the Navy-headquaters and barraks in Puerto Montt. This is not really "my cup of tea" but it might be of some interest for you and this is why I mention it here.
This place is just about 100 meters from the place, where you are leaving the port-area.
