    Leg injured

Medical services at the Portillo Hotel are very expensive. You'd better check if you medical plan covers your trip to Chile or contract a medical insurance for that week. I injured my leg and it costed me $120 just to see the doctor and get an X-ray plaque. Some credit cards will cover those expenses. My Amex did.

    The border station

Further it is strictly forbidden to take pictures of the chilenian custom station. If you want a memory you buy a post card there (watch the travelogue). When taking photos of the landscape, try to take them without the border station, like in the picture on your left.

It can sometimes be that military is watching to the tourists, because it´s just a few kilometers to the border with Argentina. Beware of taking photos like this if there are soldiers here. I had luck and so nothing happend to me. But I only wanted to photograph the mountains and I didn´t know that the orange building is a military base ....
