Recommended by Fodor's and myself ;) This is the only restaurant located just in front of the Valparaiso's central market, very close to Ascensores Artilleria. Here you can find freshest seafood (hello! it's 2 blocks away from the sea, and 5 feet from the market!!). Try one of the wide varieties of Ceviche dishes as well as seafood hotpots.
Favorite Dish: CEVICHE!!

Sits in the midst of the historical zone--patrimonio--this old renovated building serves as an outstanding restaurant and respite from average eating housed in Chile. Really international standards--choice of foods, wines, attention from staff, hygiene. Highly recommend this after a long tour or before boarding an ocean liner.
Favorite Dish: Fillo wrapped congrio, the deep sea fish that is so well known here in these parts.

The end of a crazy night,we enter the J.Cruz with my stomach growling, and shortly thereafter we are served a tremendous "chorillana" ; a typical local dish..
"Chorrillana" is a traditional and special dish of the J.Cruz..made by fried potatoes, covered with sauteed onion, steak and to top it off,a fried egg.WOW..the best taste of heaven:)
You should go there and have a lunch or dinner..and,if you EVER do not visit J.Cruz ,please NEVER do not tell your friends or your mom&dad that I've been in Valparaiso:)
I am sure that J.Cruz is the best place after the DANCE..because of,you need more energy for further more..Don't forget a bottle of Chilen Merlot..The best combination of life..and the end of nite..you'll feel that you're being a Chilean..and start to say TIBURON TIBURON...
The random ornaments,a scattered collection of antique oddities, among them old water filters made of China, diverse artifacts from mariners and black and white murals of old Valparaiso created the ideal mood..it was amazing..thanks God:) ofcourse you too Matita.ajajajaja

Restaurant Milan y lo de Pancho is a wonderful old restaurant. The service is excellent, the prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. I had stuffed avocado, shellfish soup, merluza (hake) and ice cream, with a bottle of Chilean white wine. It was a great meal.
The restaurant is actually two in one. It faces on to two streets. At the front, on Calle Blanco, it is called Milan while on Calle Cochrane it is Lo de Pancho, but it's basically the same place. I ate in the Lo de Pancho section, which is a bit like an old-style Parisian restaurant. It is also an atmospheric, late night drinking spot.
Typical price per person about C$7,500.
Open daily from 10am to 5am.

I thought this restaurant was really really good as far as authentic Chilean seafood restaurants go. It is in a fabulous location at the Caleta Portales, right next to the fishermen's wharf so you an be assured of a fresh catch! The interior of the restaurant is decorated in sea and boating themes and has an "upper deck" which looks like a ship. The restaurant's exterior has a large hanging shark which you can't miss.
If you don't book a table it is likely that you will have to wait but it was definitely worth the wait.
We paid 33,100 pesos for an entree to share, two mains, two desserts, two soft drinks and a bottle of wine.
Favorite Dish: I had the Corvina (Sea Bass) done in the Ocean style which was various shellfish sauteed in herbs and olive oil. It was absolutely delicious! We also had the Calamares Apanados (crumbed squid rings) for an entree. The dessert menu is also very good.

This is a great place for a meal or a glass of wine. The atmosphere reminds the old times. music , strictly vinyls playing, the ambient, locals and the staff make it a unique place.
DONT MISS IT!!!!
the food is excellent and the wine is chilean, personally I found it very good.

The restaurant came highly recommended from our hostel's owner. He was absolutely right.
The place has local ambiance, great food and service. We were told to order any seafood & we were not disappointed. Very fresh & well prepared, big portions. We don't speak Spanish, but it was not a problem, since the owner & his son are fluent in English. After dinner we were even given a complimentary after dinner liquor which was delicious. Also, from what we gathered, they make freshly squeezed strawberry & pineapple juice, it was out of this world delicious.
It cost us about $22 for dinner with drinks & tips
Favorite Dish: grilled congrio & reineta were the best!!

Small and cozy, the name implies what it's all about... great pasta dishes that are homemade with enchanting sauces and a fine selection of Chilean wine. Before you even order, you will be presented a basket of various breads followed by a couple of plates of unique and tasty hors d'oeuvres. All quite continental! The pasta dishes were truly exquisite and well presented. The best part, for us, was that the meal size was manageable. All too often, especially with pasta dishes, the plate overflows to the point that you lose your appetite with the recogntion that you'll never wade through it all. Not here. The portions were perfect and you will be delightfully sated at the conclusion of your meal! Apparently, reservations are imperative due to it's popularity and small size.
Favorite Dish: We ordered a four cheese gnocchi and a spaghetti carbonera. The food was excellent, well presented and the sauces, although rich, were not over-powering. Our two dishes with a great Chilean Syrah ($30.00 or so) yielded a final bill of $66.00 including tip. I reckon a similar meal back home might have approached $100.00.
