A nice place for lunch along the main street, Santologo tempted us with its cheap lunch time menu where we had 3 courses plus a drink and a coffee for 2700 pesos. It felt like a gentleman's club or hatever the equivalent is in Chile, and we were very underdressed in comparison to our waiter. We were the only customers there that day but the food was very good. The menu was vegetable soup followed by beef with mashed potato, and then fruit salad for desert. The coffee was instant but otherwise everything was fine.

Looking for a restaurant in Villarrica? Don't miss La Vecchia Cucina. We found it posted on the web and went there as a change from the food at La Hosteria Colina, where we were staying. The ambience is pleasantly cosy, and we were immediately impressed by the high quality wine glasses, and the excellent menu, with a full range of classic italian dishes (no ossobuco or veal, however). The service was attentive, if a little inexperienced, and there was no formal wine list. Our waiter brought us three bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon (their entire range for that varietal), and we selected one that turned out to be very drinkable and quite affordable. Before the bread arrived, we were served a rosemary and olive oil pizza, courtesy of the chef, that was light, fragrant, and delicions.
Favorite Dish: We shared an avocado, lettuce, and cheese salad. Dress it yourself - it was simple, but good. Nancy had salmon with a cream and garlic sauce and it was delicious. I had the lomo with cream and mushrooms, and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. No accompaniments, but they were not needed. We didn't start with antipasto or pasta, but if you did, you'd be battling to eat the generous servings in the main dishes. The range of desserts was limited, but we had no room anyway. Finished the meal with an expresso cortado - a bit of foamy milk on top of an espresso. It was excellent - the best coffee we've had in a week in Chile.
