Como Agua Para Chocolate--Like Water For Chocolate by VeronicaG, 1 more photos Como Agua para Chocolate (Like Water for Chocolate) was in the Bellevista area and near Las Chascona. The restaurant had colorful stuccoed walls in bright orange, blue and pink. The roof was a glass, wrought iron enclosure with water running from it. A fountain sat in the center of the restaurant and a stairway with ornamental ironwork led to a balcony area. Ivy climbed the walls to the balcony making this restaurant picturesque and charming.
We ordered shrimp, chicken and steak fajitas. They were delicious and filling. We also enjoyed a bottle of Miguel Torres Sauvignon Blanc. (** Miguel Torres is our favorite winery and we've visited twice--each time loading up on various wines. It's located near Talca,Chile) Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Bellevista Barrio

Dining at Zanzibar is romantic and exotic! The Moroccan inspired atmosphere made it a hit with us. Upstairs there was a very popular terrace area, but since we were traveling with three children we thought it best to settle in the downstairs dining room. We eased ourselves into the comfortable cushions lining the seating area and just relaxed. Music pulsed throughout the restaurant helping to create an entertaining evening for us. UPDATE: We paid a return visit to Zanibar (Feb.06) Calories aside, we began our meal with an appetizer called Trilogy--it included mini empanadas, chicken pieces and mini balls of meat. We also sampled humus accompanied by small rounds of bread. I ordered Chicken and Rice Curry with Vegetables($7.400 pesos) that was tender and flavorful. I also had one of the best Strawberry Coladas I've ever tasted! ($3.800 pesos). **5.000 pesos are the equiv. of $10 US. As we were conversing over our appetizers and drinks, exotic strains of music drifted through the restaurant announcing the entertainment--a very beautiful belly dancer. She floated up the aisles to the small stage at the front of the restaurant and performed a wonderfully sensual dance. Zanzibar is located at the BordeRio complex at Avenue Escriva` de Balaguer alongside the Mapocho River.

Antique calling card from my collection by VeronicaG This restaurant is upscale, pricey and popular; the decor chic and sophisticated. A glass wall overlooking the street filled with hungry patrons is the first thing we noticed. This area was lively and full of conversation. We were led to a quieter part of the restaurant to our table. FYI, I was told that Agua is one of the top ten restaurants in the Southern hemisphere. Since this was our last night in Santiago, we wanted to take our son and daughter-in-law to some place special. Judging from how crowded Agua was, those present must have agreed. Our reservations were for 8:30 p.m.-- we did not leave until 11:00 p.m.
Tasty shrimp-filled empanadas began my meal. Dinner was pasta shaped envelopes filled with a crab mixture...truly heavenly! Each of us ordered a different entree that was absolutely wonderful. Theme: Eclectic/InternationalPrice: US$41 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: most expensive

Antique Calling Card From My Collection by VeronicaG After a hectic day in Santiago, I went with my daughter-in-law and the children to Geraldine's for tea. We ordered a basket of sweet breads and extra pastry so that we could all do a little sampling. Geraldine's was a serene oasis after being jostled by pedestrians in Santiago. We relaxed over our tea enjoying every sip. I would like to return on my next visit. Geraldine's also has a gourmet grocery store next to the restaurant.

Mosto is located outside of the Parque Arauco Mall along with many other restaurants and eateries. It has an extensive wine list, sleek bar and outside dining area. We sat on the outside terrace under a wide umbrella upon a comfortable couch. I invited my daughter-in-law here after an evening of shopping at the mall. I ordered a glass of Montes Reserva Sauvignon Blanc for myself and an assorted cheese tray and shrimp to share, she sipped a coke. The entire bill came to $9.300 pesos or less than $20 US for both of us. The cheese tray had several assorted cheeses with nuts, raisins and grapes scattered on top. The shrimp was lightly touched with garlic butter...ummm! Marvelloso! I recommend a stop here to anyone traveling in this area.

Pasta y Basta by VeronicaG My son took us all out to dinner for Valentine's Day at Pasta y Basta--an Italian restaurant outside the Parque Arauco mall. The outdoor dining area was full, so we were led to an inside table. My meal began with a glass of Montes Reserva Sauvignon Blanc( $2.500 pesos a glass). A wonderful bread assortment was brought to us in a basket--I love the breads of Chile! I selected Sorrentino, which was ravioli stuffed with mozzarella, potatoes and small bits of ham with a cream sauce. This dish could be ordered singly ($5.100 pesos) or for two ($11,400). If we return someday, I hope to order the same dish--it was wonderful! **2.500 pesos were approximately $5.00 U.S. The portions were very large, so all of us took what remained of our meals home. My son suggested one of their desserts, which from prior experience he proclaimed absolutely great. I tried a piece of strawberry pie--he was right, it was terrific. Along with our check, came a small box containing two chocolate pieces...it was Valentine's Day, afterall! Pasta y Basta is air-conditioned and parking is available at the mall.

When we traveled to Buenos Aires last year, we discovered a wonderfully sweet pastry called a medialuna. Happily, a bakery in Santiago specializes in these tasty confections, too! We stopped for an assortment to take home to have for breakfast the next morning before departing on our trip to Algarobbo,Chile. Of course, we had to try one after dinner that evening. I didn't realize the medialunas came filled with chocolate, strawberry jam and other lovely options. My favorite medialuna is glazed with sugar--my mouth waters just thinking about it. Try them, you'll like them!

Pisco Sour - YAMMM !! by Trekki Trekking in Chile is always an adventure. Mainly, when the weather is typical southern Patagonia, meaning windy and rainy. So you might end up looking like a little pig, covered with dirt all over you and your clothes. Of course, the most important thing, when coming back to civilization, would be to find a laundry. However - get into one of those little bars in the town you are "coming back to" after your trek, and order yourself a Pisco Sour. Pisco is made of grapes, which are harvested only if the sugar content is high enough. For Pisco Sour, the brandy is mixed with sugar, lime and egg white - to result in a refreshing sour drink - which gives you the feeling that you are really back in civilization :-) Well, this is of course not only when you are hiking through Chile, but also when in cities - nothing is better to reflect a beautiful day than a glass of Pisco Sour :-) (!! even if it sounds unusual or weird, don't miss the egg white in the mixture - this is what makes Pisco Sour so special).
To have had a fantastic trekking experience, in the stunning landscape, with the great wild and rough weather - coming back to a little town, and then sit in a small pub, bar or restaurant, being completely dirty - and enjoy Pisco Sour and look out of the window to watch the street life :-)) Leave a Comment

Antique calling card in my collection by VeronicaG The Havana Cafe was near the Pre Colombian museum in Santiago. When at this museum, we asked a staff member to recommend a restaurant for lunch. We were directed to the Havana Cafe where we ordered a chicken salad sandwich and Three milk cake for dessert. The meal was good and we got to spend time people watching here.

Pergola de la Plaza was a small and intimate cafe located in Lastarria, a neighborhood located between Parque Forestal and Alemeda. I loved the French bistro feel to the place! We ordered appetizers that included a cheese board ($5.400 pesos) and empanadas with meat ($2.200)--I particularly loved a cheese called Mantecoso that was included on the cheese board. While we relaxed over our appetizers, our entrees were in no hurry to appear. I ordered Churasco con queso--a steak sandwich with cheese for lunch ($3.200 pesos). The decor of this restaurant was so charming; the chandeliers were quite striking in that they were adorned with colored ornaments of glass that shimmered in the light.
