Pisco Sour - don't miss it !

by Trekki

Trekking in Chile is always an adventure. Mainly, when the weather is typical southern Patagonia, meaning windy and rainy. So you might end up looking like a little pig, covered with dirt all over you and your clothes.Of course, the most important thing, when coming back to civilization, would be to find a laundry. However - get into one of those little bars in the town you are "coming back to" after your trek, and order yourself a Pisco Sour.Pisco is made of grapes, which are harvested only if the sugar content is high enough. For Pisco Sour, the brandy is mixed with sugar, lime and egg white - to result in a refreshing sour drink - which gives you the feeling that you are really back in civilization :-)Well, this is of course not only when you are hiking through Chile, but also when in cities - nothing is better to reflect a beautiful day than a glass of Pisco Sour :-)(!! even if it...

Italian Restaurant: excellent pizza in Panguipulli

by xdck83a

In the little town of Panguipulli there is an Italian joint with fantastic food. The pizzas are handmade to perfection, the pastas were tasty, and the drinks were tasty too. Mary and her husband (sorry, I can't remember his name) own and run the place, its their baby. He makes the pizzas, she makes the pastas from scratch, and everything we had was delicious. The pizzas were as good as I have ever had. Simple, tasty, cooked to perfection.

Brocolino Restaurant in Punta Arenas: Don't miss this restaurant

by VeronikaT

If anyone every told me that I will eat this amazing food at the end of the world I would have not believed. Please visit the Brocolino Restaurant in Punta Arenas on O'Higgins Street 1055 and you will not be disappointed. Internationally trained chef Hector will prepare you a meal you will never forget. There is everything on the menu: fish, steak, lamb and it is not expensive at all. The menu is also very funny as each meal description tells a personal story.

Puro Chile, San Pedro de Atacama: Puro Chile lives up to its name

by petirrojo

This is a family run business specializing in typical Chilean food and from the moment you walk in you're made to feel at home. The atmosphere is low key, definitely not fancy, but the food is tasty, filling, well-priced, and provide some authentic flavors. Okay, I didn't actually get to eat it all (operator error, you might say), but the mote with huesillo (a combination fruit compote/barley water-ish beverage) provided endless entertainment. The "huesillo" is a dried peach, pit included, and mine was a little big to easily fit whole in the mouth and too firm to cut. The attempt caused lots of amusement all around, but it was that kind of place -- we were all family and could share in my awkwardness. But, that said, we went twice because we enjoyed it all so much.

Empanadium Loft: Santiago : Empanadas forever...

by Maillekeul

You are in South America but you've never tried the empanadas before ? Shame on you !!! Though, this is the best place to begin your journey in the empanadas traffic... These ones are really good : choose the ones full of cheese, of course, but also with vegetables !!Vous etes en Amerique du Sud et n'avez jamais goute les empanadas ?? Honte sur vous ! Mais, vous pouvez vous rattraper ici, en testant de superbes empanadas a toutes les sauces, ceux plein de fromage evidemment, mais aussi avec toutes sortes de viande, de poisson et de legumes... Guess ...A votre avis...

El Mercado: King Crab

by DaveOrlando

El Mercado was recommended by the gentleman at the bus station in Punta Arenas and it was within walking distance of the station (Bus Fernandez). The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building. There I had king crab which is plentiful in that part of the world. I was surprised to see that it was normally served with the crabmeat pulled from the shell and chilled in a mound on some lettuce with a few different sauces on the side. I was hoping to have a steaming, monster crab to pick apart, but I have to say the crab meat was delicious anyway. I must have been too hungry to remember to take a picture.
