There are many excellent restaurants in Santiago. The ones I can personally recommend are: Aqui esta Coco: wonderful seafood specilaties -- especially the shellfish. Puerto Marisk: great seafood in a warm atmosphere -- try the abalone. Martin Carrera: international dishes in an upscale environment. As for 'street food' and local food and beverage specialties, try the empanadas (meat pies); sopaipillas (fried pumpkin patties); humitas (corn dumplings); and, of course, the great Chilean wines. If you're not into wine, try the tasty Pisco Sours -- a hard-liquor drink with egg and lemon to add 'spice.'

Like all meals in the average Restuarant. No more than AUD12.00 or USD 6.00. The waiters too know their foods and wines. @ Don Chicos I initially asked for this dish as an entree. The waiter suggested this dish as the main. I was not disappointed. Pan Fried Abalones on Pure (Mashed Potatoes)This dish encompasses the spirit of Chilean Food. Its so simple, the flavours automatically come out. There's no need for extras, eg presentation of food & exotic dressings.

I do not have a favorite restaurant. But the food was always good and not expensive at all ! ! ! !Alcohol is cheap......... Drink up !!! The typical chilian dishes may be a little heavy in content. But you can eat a full meal (seafood or steak)for less than 10.00 each.

When visiting Tongoy, you get to choose from a great variety of restaurants. All of them are situated near the small harbour or along the coastline. Well, I must say, as I am fond of seafood, that every restaurant I've been in, I only ate .... seafood.Boy, would I love to go back and taste it all again!

The Mercado Central (Central Market). You can pick up fresh seafood and also eat at some of the restaurants on site. delicious.Le Flaubert was a tasty little French Bistro with nice ambiance as well. Shark meat. I can't eat shell fish, so I tried a lot of the fish items. All of the food at Flaubert was good (and believe I tried just about everything)

GATOPARDOused to be under Bolivian management and had many Bolivian items on the menu.New management, with international food. The maitre d´ was very attentive. the restaurant starts to fill up with lunch crowd around 1 pm and dinner crowd later in the night.interior deocation is unique in that six distinct tree trunks from the southern part of the country support the roof.welcome pisco sour during lunch time. The Salad Bar has to be the best in Santiago de Chile.I also had Ceviche, Carpaccio of Salmon. Both I recommend highly.

Les Assasins. I was given high recommendation for this small restaurant. obviously the management had changed since that recommendationchile, land of delicious wine but many of the restaurants do not have long and good winelists. les assasins had wine by half a bottle, which was good since i could not drink a whole bottle of whatever wine by myself! I had seafood crepe which was just ordinary. i wouldnt say it was not delicious but nothing to write about.my brother who ordered filet mignon with champignons was very satisfied with his meal
