Los Dominicos is an artisan's area featuring many different crafts. We visit each time we come to Chile and highly recommend it for souvenirs and gifts for family or for yourself. It is located outside Santiago and most people would know how to direct you there! Shops offering handmade jewelry (I love the silver pendants, earrings and rings), ceramics, wood crafts, woven textiles, leather products and silver/pewter items. There are small places to have a quick lunch or snack. Postcards and toys are available, too. We've taken the kids with us and they always find something to hold their attention: ducks, winding pathways, etc.
Silver jewelry or leather products. A pastry nicknamed "torn underwear" that was delectable! Theme: Gifts

Shopping for antiques in Santiago? YES! My husband and I rented a radio taxi for a morning and went to Feria de Antiquedades Parque de Los Reyes on the Avenida Brazil. At first glance, the large warehouse didn't look like much...but inside! One booth after another offered antiques and collectibles of all types. The booths were numbered, so after finding a "treasure" you can write the number down and continue on your exploration. I was looking for perfume bottles for my collection and wanted to find one from Czechoslovakia--I was successful!

Plaza Norte Mall by VeronicaG The Plaza Norte Mall is located outside of Santiago in Huechuraba. Although it is not as classy as the Parque Arauco or Alto Las Condes Mall, it does contain three large department stores: Falabella, Ripley and Paris plus other small stores and an assortment of restaurants such as Mamut, T'Quila, Duncan Donuts, Cory and other snack shops. Parking is on the premises. There is also a Homecenter, Powerhouse Gym, Cinema and medical offices located at this mall. I was told that the Plaza Malls throughout the Santiago area carry less expensive products and clothing than the upscale malls such as Parque Arauco and Alto Las Condes which direct their merchandise to a well-heeled clientele. Silver...It's a Good Thing! by VeronicaG Silver jewelry is a great buy in Chile! Pictured are the various pendants I've collected from my trips there. The silver necklace is a recent purchase from Bagus at the Parque Arauco Mall. I can wear any of the pendants with it, but I also have silver chains on which to hang them. I love the jewelry! Parque Arauco Mall is the location for shops such as Nine West, BB2, Hush Puppies, Mingo, MNG, Stefan Joyeros, Laura Ashley, Swatch, Via Augusta Express, Foster, Ellus Limited, Ripley, Tommy Hilfeger, Falabella and many, many others. There is also a place to exchange your money and bank machines. I discovered Privilege on last year's trip to Santiago. This year, I stopped by to check the merchandise once again. This shop always seems to have something I like! When I visit in February, most clothing is on sale. It's a great time to shop. The sales staff is prompt to help and will direct you to the cashier to purchase your choice. Once paid for, you are then directed to a counter to have your purchase wrapped. Such service!! I visited Parque Arauco mall many times this visit and highly recommend it. It is my favorite mall in which to shop!
All types of women's, men's and children's clothing; pharmacy items; perfumes, several jewelry kiosks, shoes, leather products, home accessories, toys, etc. There are many cafes and restaurants at Parque Arauco Mall--it's my favorite place to shop in Santiago!
Upscale shopping, but look for sales in January and February Theme: Women's ClothesAddress: Parque Arauco Mall, Santiago

Alto las Condes Mall by VeronicaG We stopped at the Alto Las Condes Mall on our way home from our tour of the new Cultural Center in Santiago. We were shoe shopping for the grandkids for school! Alto Las Condes Mall is another upscale shopping mall that has many of the same stores as the Parque Arauco Mall (which I prefer!). It was a nicely designed, modern mall showcasing these stores: Privilege, Barbizon, Saville Row, Nautica, Bennetton, Ripley, Lee, Levis, Ruby Tuesday, Duncan Donuts, Falabella, Petland, Reebok and a number of others. As most malls, it also had a large foodcourt and parking area.

Mercado Central by VeronicaG While driving around Santiago, we chanced to pass the Mercado Central. I easily identified one of the food items the market carried....fish! You could smell it for blocks! The Mercado Central was designed primarily by Fermin Vivaceta in 1872. There are restaurants within the building and several nearby. The wrought iron embellishment over the main doors creates a dramatic entranceway. We did not stop here as we were on our way to see an exhibition at the Cultural Center that day.

While strolling through Chile's business district, we stopped by Lavinoteca in the hopes of finding a Sauvignon Blanc sampled at a few of the restaurants here in Chile. Lavinoteca is a chic wine store located in Chile's business district along Isidora Goyenechea Avenue. After a short search, the clerk found MONTES RESERVA Sauvignon Blanc on the shelves. While we were there, a Brazilian man, hearing that we preferred white wines suggested CATRALA Sauvignon Blanc (5900 pesos). We'll reserve judgment on that selection once we have the opportunity to try it. Another wine store in the vicinity was, El Mundo del Chile. NOTE: Wines tend to be less expensive when purchased at the wineries. Update: We've tasted the Catrala Sauvignon Blanc and its light, fruity taste is very appealing.

Lapislazuli, Chile. by Aquamantos There are only 2 LAPISLAZULI's mines in the whole world and one of those is right here in Chile, in the IV Region exactly. This blue semi precious stone is used to create wonderful jewelry pieces, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and different types of ornaments. This is one of my favourite stones, because of the deep blue color. There are many jewelry shops in Chile where you can find it. *Photo: taken from www.yahoo.com*
