  • Chilean specialties

There are stalls selling handicrafts in the plaza, outdoor stalls in the parks, and small shops around the plaza. You will also find many stores with clothing. There was a super market near our hotel. Punta Arenas is a fun place to shop for Chilean handicrafts, hand made chocolate, stone jewelery, sheepskin clothing. If you collect penguin items...

  • Kross - the best Chilean beer

Kross is a Chilean beer (made in a microbrewery), and in my opinion it's the best! I'm a bit of a beer snob and the other Chilean beers (Escudo, Cristal) are disgusting! Austral, on the other hand, is pretty good as well. 1,200 pesos, more or less.

  • Pisco

I don't think it's possible to go to Chile and not hear about and try pisco. It's a liqueur made from "limones de pica", a really little lemon creature.HOWEVER, do not believe any Chilean who tells you pisco is Chilean, because it is Peruvian originally. I wouldn't try to argue the point though because it is rather a touchy subject!
