El Tatio Geysers
This is an early morning trip. Pour yourself into a bus at 4am in the freezing cold of the desert (it was minus 6 when I was there!) and drive for 2 hours up into the Andes to see the geysers at dawn.Because it gets warm quite quickly the steam from the geysers does not last long. If you have been to Yellowstone then they may dissapoint as the area is nowhere near as extensive and the geysers not as volatile. Still, the scenery is lovely and the countryside on the way back is a revelation (you won't see it on the way up as it will be dark and you will most likely fall back asleep!). If you go with a tour you will get breakfast and hot coffee thrown in (infact they warm up the milk by putting the carton into a hot pool)!If you are mad enough you can also go for a dip in the hot springs.
