Buses go everywhere

by joernme

If you go to Chile and you have a little time - use the excellent bus system! They take you nearly everywhere, they are good, they are cheap and you get to know a lot of interesting people. And believe me - the Chileans you will meet will make you forget about the long bus rides.

Avoid the crowded Airport - Mistral Lounge

by aero198

When you are taking an international flight departing from Santiago Airport, with LanChile or any of the OneWorld airlines, you can have access to the Mistral Lounge, paying USD15, it includes complimentary drinks, food, business center, TV, etc.

Airlines operating in Chile

by Glospi

Besides the international carriers operating into Chile, the main national carrier –both domestic and overseas- is LAN CHILE, which has a domestic branch called LAN EXPRESS, and branches in Peru and Ecuador as well. For Chilean nationals, LAN is somewhat expensive, although foreigners can benefit from tax deductions and reduced-price domestic air passes (“Visit Chile”).Anyway, being LAN the ONLY carrier on Earth that flies to Easter Island, their fares to there are absurdly expensive (tickets are more expensive than flying to Mexico, twice the distance to Easter Is.!!), so they rarely offer bargains or make reductions on demand. If on a budget, it works better to go to the airport and wait for a last-minute vacant seat, which may not be available though. On domestic routes, LAN has a competitor: SKY AIRLINES, which has an excellent service to almost all of the destinations served by LAN,...

Bus from/to Santiago Airport

by mahzan

At the arrival terminal, go outside the terminal and you can take the Aeropuerto bus (blue colour) to Santiago - cost is only 1200 Chilean pesos. (2000 pesos for roundtrip). The bus can drop you off at Los Heroes subway station. To the airport, you can also take the bus outside the Los Heroes subway station. The trip is about 30 minutes depends on the traffic.

Navimag, of course - Navimag, bien sur...

The one (and only ?) company that will make you dream on their "love boat", the Puerto Eden, from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales, across the chilean fjords and some wonderful landscapes (see Travelogues on my pages Region del Aisen and Magallanes)La seule (et l'unique ?) compagnie qui vous fera amuser tout au long d'une croisiere sur le Puerto Eden, depuis Puerto Monnt jusqu'a Puerto Natales, a travers les Fjords Chiliens et les magnifiques paysages de la Patagonie (cf Travelogues sur mes pages Region del Aisen et Magallanes)

Disco mini Buses

by ChelseaBuns

Well there is always transportation nearby in Chile. So basically you can just walk outside your place and find a mini mercedes disco bus awaiting. bELieve me I was in a couple minor accidents with the way they drive but dont let that scare you you get from point A to B and only pay a little plata (money)!

JB Bus & Bus Fernandez

by DaveOrlando

I flew Orlando-Miami-Santiago-Punta Arenas which took almost 24 hours (14 hours in the air) with transfers, customs, etc., and then it was a 3 hour bus ride from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales on Bus Fernandez (recommended) on a modern, comfortable bus and another 2-3 hour bus ride from Puerto Natales to the park on JB Bus. This bus was more of an overland type of bus, understandably. Because the park is so far south, the bus schedules to the park change around mid-March (beginning of winter in the southern hemisphere) to a few times a week, whereas in-season there are buses every day. I would not recommend Bus Sur from Punta Arenas because they did not make a scheduled stop at the Punta Arenas airport (I had to go back into town by taxi and get a ticket on Bus Fernandez). As a side note, JB Bus had the absolute best driver (of course I can't remember his name) who stopped for pictures,...

NAVIMAG CRUISE

by swesn

To travel between Puerto Montt and Puerto Natales, one can take a cruise along the Chilean fjords. The scenery is beautiful but not as spectacular as I had imagined.Navimag runs several cruises, some to Laguna San Rafael; others from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales or vice-versa.From Puerto Montt, it leaves on Monday afternoon. From Puerto Natales, you check in on Thursday night and it departs on Friday morning. The cheapest is the 'C' cabin which is a bunk bed in a 22-bed cabin. Prices vary depending on the season. A locker is provided and there is curtain for privacy. Very comfortable.Check out the website below.

METRO in SANTIAGO

by Aquamantos

Taking the Metro is the best way to get around Santiago. Very clean, comfy, fast and cheap.Traffic in Santiago can be HORRIBLE sometimes. So regardless if you're driving or if you've taken a "micro" (inter city buses), or cab, you'll be very nervous watching how people drive here, ha ha ha ha....yeah I have heard that is even worse in Buenos Aires..... but I recommend the METRO, and then if you're still a bit far from your destination, walk, take a micro or cab.I love this METRO!!!!!!! ;o)*Photo: taken from www.sernatur.cl*
