by Aquamantos

This Airport is the most important in Santiago. All international flights to Chile arrive here first.National Airport is in the same area. There are flights to different cities within the country. This Airport was chosen as the best one in Latin America by the Latin Trade Magazine ;o)Our National Airline is LAN CHILE (www.lanchile.cl)*Photo: taken from www. cruisinaltitude.com*

LONG-DISTANCE BUSES

by swesn

Long-distance buses in Chile are not-too-bad. (Those in Argentina and Brazil are slightly better.)The quality of buses are obviously different on buses in the various price ranges. Sometimes, in popular tourist spots where there are many choices, the difference can be HUGE. For example, trying to go from VILLARRICA to SANTIAGO, I made inquiries and found the price to range from 6000 to 24000 Chilean Pesos. If money means a lot to you, ask around the different companies. This is the cheaper way to travel around Chile.

A nice way to get from Puerto Montt to Chaiten

by jsepulve

I took a catamaran from Puerto Montt to Chaiten. The catamaranes are much faster that the regular boats, it only takes 4 hours instead of 10. I took Aysen express, its a norwiegen company, the service was great and the scenery was amazing. It cost 14,000 pesos for the one way trip.

by Saldi

It's much better our subway than our buses...Taxis are right, but always pay with local currency (for europeans, asians and north-americans people it's very cheap). If you want to travel inside the country, has 2 options: Bus (theese are right and safe),Airplane (very comfortable) and Ships (usually some Ferrys in the south).Don't take the train...it's too slow and not very comfortable!Car rentals brands like Hertz, A.A, Budget and Avis are a goood option too!.

Getting there and around

by darthmilmo

There is an excellent trasnportation infrastructure in Chile. Bus fares are more expensive than neighboring Bolivia and Peru, but well worth it considering you sometimes get food and bevarages. As for airfare, Chile is a great place to fly into or out of South America. For those interested to go to Easter Island, there are several good deals to be made in major cities.

We flew directly from London...

by wendy_2000

We flew directly from London with British Airways. As we were trying to see as much as possible in 3.5 weeks, we got a Lan Chile airpass and flew between the main places. Then, once we had got somewhere, we hired cars - 4x4's are your best bet so you can go off the beaten track. The road between Punta Arenas and Torres del Paine is two lane, but only 1 side is paved, the other is gravel. Drive on the paved side until you meet something and then give way if the gravel track is to your right!
