Don't underestimate hiking in Torres del Paine park. Even though most of W is relatively flat (except for the side valleys) and straightforward, the weather and streams or mudpools where the trail has been washed out can make even this popular trek potentialy dangerous, especially if you come unprepared. I didn't realise that until an evening in refugio Pehoe, when the weather outside was miserable, somewhere between rain and snow with gusty winds and two completely soaked girls came in. They were pale as a ghost with black eyes and shivering, so someone immediately got them some blankets and some soup. They got lost on the trail and then the weather closed in on them. They wore jeans and a regular jacket, nothing that was either wind or waterproof. And believe me, you do want to be waterproof there, because the rain falls horizontally, hell it even comes from below, when the wind picks...
