    The damage

One Botero that is not in the square was the sight of a 1994 bombing by the guerillas that killed 14 inocent people. The bomb, left in a backpack by the statue litterally tore a hole through the statue. Botero made an exact copy as a replacement but the City decided to leave the orriginal standing, next to it's uninjured sibling as a reminder of the horors of terrorism and the need for peace.

    Parque Lleras:

Parque Lleras Calle 11 and Carrera 39 This is a small but very lively park with nice landscaping and fountains.

It is surrounded by many cafes and restaurants, and its big trees offer a lot of shade.

The Parque Lleras is packed to gills on weekends with locals who come here to numerous bars and discos.

And even during the week the restaurants are full and the place is buzzing with activity.

The most popular discos here are Blue and Folia, but if you visit one and feel like changing atmosphere, another club is literally half a block away.

A fantastic place to girl watch.

This is a really nice little town in the mountains about 100 km from Medellin.

A typical paisa town. A really amazing place and the busride up the mountains is really cool
and gives a great view on the surrounding villages and nature.

    Museo de Antioquia:
This museum houses many statues and paintings of Medellin's most famous artists, Fernando Botero.
There is also a great section of modern latino art.
There are people walking throughout the museum who are happy to explain the artwork.

    Pueblito Paisa

Pueblito Paisa is a replica of an old Antioquian town.
This replica of a typical Paisa village us situated on top of the Cerro Nutibarra.
With souvenir shops and open air cafes it's anice place to relax,
besides it provides an amazing view over that nice red city.
It truly does give you a good idea what the typical village of the area looks like, with its colourful houses, a tiny local chirch, courtyards and patios, small shops and a fountain in the middle of the village.
After i went to Santa fe de Antioquia, i realised that the two look almost exactly the same,
the town is built up in the exact same way as the replica indicates.
So if you don't have time to go to the surrounding towns, the Pueblito Paisa gives you a good idea of the local villages, and the view is truly breathtaking.

    Las Palmas Road, Medellin

The eastern region in Antioquia is really beautufull. In spanish is called "Vuelta a Oriente". Full of mountains, lakes, rivers, great restaurants, you can ride horses, sailing,....
You have two different choices, take Las Palmas Road or Santa Helena Road.

Take a private car, a taxi, metro, bycicle or just walk around the city. The smell of the trees, the mountains close to the city, the smiling faces of the people, the hospitality. You got to be there to believe it.

Gorgeous and large botanical gardens in the city. I enjoyed the orchids and the bamboo forest, among others. I grabbed a good lunch at a trailer there but there are also a couple of restaurants.

The city is know as the "City of Eternal Spring" due to its mild climate all year long. Although it can get very hot you do need to wear suntan lotion especially if your not used to the sun.
