    Guerrillas are not that common in Boyaca, but always ask locals for current conditions of roads if traveling alone.

    There is a lot of military checkpoints on the roads. Mostly you won't be stopped if you're travelling by car (vs. bus), but if you are stopped, there's nothing to worry about. The soldiers are professional and polite. They will check below your car and in your trunk for anything fishy, and you'll be on your way quickly.
