Titumate

by mircaskirca

About 15 minutes by panga boat from San Pacho is Titumate, a small fishing village at the foot of the mythical mountainous swampland area of Darién which separates Panama in Central America from Colombia in South America. At present the scenic bay of Titumate has a population of approximately 700 people and the seafront around the pier seems to be a place for socializing. The village is quite picturesque, with brightly painted houses and many tropical trees and flowers. We made a stop here at the end of our hiking tour from San Pacho. After lunch we still had some time before taking a boat back to San Pacho. We went to the waterfront to have another beer. While waiting for the boat I also found an inspiration for many pictures that I took - sweet children :) I really enjoyed my short visit of Titumate. The village has good vibes and I wished I stayed longer. more pics in the travelogue

San Pacho

by mircaskirca

San Francisco, known by local people as San Pacho, is a small village with about 150 inhabitants where time seems to stopped. The village is ideal for those who love to be close to nature, wake up with the monkey's howl and the birds singing, and want to get to know traditions and the way of life of the local people. They mainly work in agriculture and fishing. The area has suffered a lot during the last decades because of the violence but thankfully they are getting over it. You can go around by foot, horse and mule. The streets of San Pacho are green, colourful and very organized. There are a few simple cabañas where you can stay and more on the way to Aldea del Arte. The village has two tiny shops with the limited supply since everything has to be brought by boat from Turbo. Here is also El Almendro, my favourite restaurant in the area. A short walk from San Pacho is La Poza de...

Hike from Triaganá to San Pacho

by mircaskirca

There is a pleasant 45-minute hike from Triganá to San Pacho which I did two times: the first day a return one with a Colombian-Canadian couple and then the following day when I moved to San Pacho. Most of the time the path leads along the sea and there are parts where it goes through the tropical forest. On the way there are several cabañas set in magnificent surroundings with a lot of trees and greenery. I can imagine fallen asleep listening to the waves, and waking up with the birds singing. What a pleasant environment to stay! We also passed by a two-storey wooden house where was a shop with a basic supply. They offered simple meals as well. Approaching San Pacho we walked along the deserted sand beach backed by a grassland where cows were grazing. At the entrance to the village we were greeted by sweet children. Later it was found they were children of Rockelina, my cook in San...

Triganá

by mircaskirca

If you ever dreamed of being in the middle of huge native trees, enjoy the warm and quiet Caribbean sea, see monkeys, iguanas, turtles, frogs and others in their natural habitat, you've dreamed of paradise. Triganá is a small settlement in the Golfo de Urubá, located about 1 hour and 30 minutes by boat from Turbo, where you find all this and more. Beautifully located in the small bay, in the middle of the Chocó rainforest, it is a great place to enjoy breathtaking scenery, where the magic of the rainforest mixes with the sea.Triganá is a pleasant ecotourism destination and it was my first stop after arriving from Turbo. There are nice cabañas to stay right in the village, next to the pier, where you can have your meals, or you arrange them with the local people as we did. In case you get tired of silence, there is music in the high season. But with almost no tourists during the low...
