Things to Do

Chatting with the Locals

Chatting with the Locals, Arauca

greatguy Says:  This guy was out for a walk with his girl. Stopped by to chat and chew on some grass. He'd only let us get so close, has a large personal space. These iguanas can scurry at amasing speed when nervous.

greatguy Says:  Lots of green stuff Going hungry.

Transportation

Helicopter is the only way to go

Helicopter is the only way to go, Arauca

greatguy Says:  Too dangerous by car or bus. Potential for kidknapping, etc pretty high. Fly above it all is the best. The FARC do have surface to air missles, but don't waste them on well marked helicopters.

Off The Beaten Path

Can't go forward without getting wet

greatguy Says:  Don't tread here. The local animals do eat humans, i.e. Alligators. They were off somewhere else when we were here, maybe. I suspected they were in the under-brush. Locals do hunt for treats, so they are a little shy until they have the advantage.

You need this kind of Protection to Survive here. Not a kind place. Most locals are either into Narco-traffic, the FARC, or the Army.
