by el_ruso The international airport is located well above the city, and the road there is long and windy. You will be actually driving through the clouds on your way to or from the city. Budget at least an hour for the trip! Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

A subway station in Medellin by Lodestar Medellin is the only one of Colombian cities to have a subway system. The subway is relatively cheap, clean, fast, safe and quite well structured. Leave a Comment Theme: Subway/Metro

by cochinjew By air of course! From Miami there are direct flights on Avianca or Aces; also connecting flights. Within colombia it is advisable to travel by air rather than by road. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

It´s true that the Medellin Metro system is great. Very clean and lots of guards riding the trains and on the platforms. As I´m a fan of subways (the ones underground), it´s disappointing that this system is entirely overground, actually elevated like Chicago. This nice thing is you can connect for free to a cable car and ride 3 stops up a hill and back as part of your 1150 ($0.50) fare. A nice first day thing to do as a tourist.... Subway runs above ground actually - mostly along the river, and in the center on viaducts, so this is more of a light rail system. Trains are very clean, smooth and nice. Stations are very well guarded. The ride is cheap - only a few hundred pesos. Leave a Comment Theme: Subway/Metro

by el_ruso Taxis here are plentiful and cheap. Seriously, you can't imagine what 'lots of taxis' looks like until you come to Colombia! Mexico City or New York City barely have any in comparison. My tip is to pick a Hyundai Atos taxi, if any are available. They look ugly and funny, but they ride really really comfortably. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

by gfinesilver This museum houses many statues and paintings of Medellin's most famous artists, Fernando Botero. There is also a great section of modern latino art. There are people walking throughout the museum who are happy to explain the artwork. Leave a Comment

El Parque de los Pies Descalzos is one of the most popular parks in Medellin. Comfortably surrounded by trees, it provides a perfect hiding place for couples and lovers, who look for privacy under the surrounding trees and bushes. The park also has several open air cafes which provide a good place for people watching and relaxing. On the other side of the park you'll find huge chess-boards, where you can actually play - a great and interesting pass-time. Leave a Comment

The fountain in the middle of the Pueblito Paisa by Lodestar This replica of a typical Paisa village us situated on top of the Cerro Nutibarra. With souvenir shops and open air cafes it's anice place to relax, besides it provides an amazing view over that nice red city. It turly does give you a good idea what the typical village of the area looks like, with its colourful houses, a tiny local chirch, courtyards and patios, small shops and a fountain in the middle of the village. After i went to Santa fe de Antioquia, i realised that the two look almost exactly the same - the town is built up in the exact same way as the replica indicates. So if you don't have time to go to the surrounding towns, the Pueblito Paisa gives you a good idea of the local villages, and the view is truly breathtaking. Leave a Comment
