Since most of the taxies in Medellin have meters (unlike the ones in the Caribbean region) most people don't consider asking for the estimated price before, which (in my case at least) may result in the driver driving around for hours, pretending not to find the place you want to go or just taking a huge detour... That happens in case you look and sound like a foreginer of course, and if you are not sure where exactly you are going.
Unique Suggestions: So it's advisable to ask for an estimate before stepping into a cab, cause later the unfair price is too difficult to argue about.
Fun Alternatives: You can always take a bus, especially if you are alone or there are just two of you, so it will be definately less expensive.
