Museo Casa de Bolivar
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Museo Casa de Bolivar is situated in a beautiful colonial mansion and the exhibitions are in the rooms around two patios. In this house Simon Bolivar stayed for two months in 1828 and therefore some of the items displayed are things used by Simon Bolivar. There are furniture, documents and other historical things from both the colonial time and the independence. There is also an exhibition with things of the Guane Indins, who inhabited the area before the Spaniards arrived. From the Guane Indians there are pottery, weapons mummies and many textiles.
The entrance fee was 1000 pesos (July 2007).
    The museum is open 8 - 12, 14 - 18 Monday - Friday and 8 - 12 Saturday.

    Casa de la Cultura
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just across the road from the Museo Casa de Bolivar is Casa de la Cultura. This is another very beautiful building from the colonial time with art exhibitions in two floors. When I visited there were children having lessons in both painting and music. It was very nice walking around listening to the music and admire the architecture.
Entrance fee was 1000 pesos (July 2007).
    Casa de la Cultura is open 8 - 12, 14 - 18 Monday - Friday and 8 - 12 Saturday.
I was only allowed to take photos in the courtyard.

    Giron
  • Tip Rating:
  • The colonial center of barrio Giron is beautiful and well preserved, even though its cobblestones make it difficult to walk. The whitewashed colonial buildings are set against beautiful mountains. The place is full of tourists from Bucaramanga on weekends. I have not seen any airconditioned restaurants here, but there are plenty of places to get food or a beverage. The municipality outside of the colonial area is overall a rather depressed and poor area.

    Plaza Santander
The center is a rather unhappy place without anything worthwhile to see. The only exception is la Catedral de la Sagrada Familia, which is a tastefully modest white building with a statue of Jesus, Mary and Joseph on the roof.

This is a beautiful park near to Bucaramanga (50 minutes by car). There you can see the beautiful chicamocha canyon that is really amaizing, a big sculpture into the park called "Movimiento de los comuneros" made in copper donated by the most important companies of the region and enjoy staying in touche with nature.

In this park you can also practice extreme sports like rafting in the chicamocha river (level V), paragliding and canopy.

Bucaramanga is a green city. If you walk around to the "Altos de Cabecera" neighbourhood at mornings it is fantastic, you can feel the pure air through your lungs, the warm wind in your face while you enjoy the landscape.

In Bucaramanga is a park wherever you go more than one in each neighbourhood. You can walking through the city, it is very beatiful. You can try San Pio park, De los niņos park, mejoras publicas park, San Laureano park and more...for everywhere.

The park of water has an international architectural prize. It is located into the "Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado Metropolitano de Bucaramanga"and it is very unique.
