La Cieba: A great Vallenato Date

by MrRandMcnally Written Feb 7, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While La Corelleja and La Legenda have the wild vallenato parties, La Cieba in Usequen is the calmer place to take a date. Here you can have a drink in the cozy setting and enjoy a Vallenato trio led by Willam (forget his last name). Really a favorite of my wife's and mine. Also you can get William's number at the bar. He will play private parties for about $50.

La Coralleja: Vallenato and other Costena Music

by MrRandMcnally Written Feb 7, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you like Vallenato (who doesn't love Acordian based Love songs?) you must go to La Coralleja. Here you will find live Vallenato and other camasino Costana music live in a great bar that has something of a theater on the Round feel. There is a little stage in the middle and the tables and the dance floor go all the war around. My wife is more of a Salsalera but give me a guitar, an acordion, and a big bottle of Antioquena aguardiente.

La Esquina del Tango: The Soul of Tango in Bogota

by MrRandMcnally Written Feb 5, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I never had a bad night at La Esquina del tango. Right in the middle of Bogota, you find yourself transported to a dark Tango jaint in Buenas Aires. Saul Valento and hes cohorts look like they have been singing tango for decades and still bring out all the passion every Saturday night. Go early to make sure you get a good seat and dring Argentine wine while enjoing the show, A great Date place.

On thursdays they offer free Dance lessions. The only cost is that there is an understanding that, once you are good enough you will dance between the musical sets for the Saturday show. Some of the students were really great.

La Cava de los puros: Cigar Bar

by MrRandMcnally Written Feb 5, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Every town should have a great place to sit in a comphy couch, drink a rum and smoke a stoggie. It is a great way to wind doiwn after a long week and break into the weekend. In Bogota the place to go is La Cava de los puros on Calle 83 and 12. Between Andino Mall and the Zona T. They have a nice selection of Cubans mixed with a small number of their own lable Colombian cigars.

Ozy Pub: Ozy Pub, My home away from home

by MrRandMcnally Written Dec 29, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Ozy pub is a cool little pub that carters to well educated young adults. There is generally a nice crowd there enjoying music, generaly in english, and the best selection of imported beers in town. There are no Australians involved in the business but the Owner got his MBA in Sydney and brought home an impressive colection of memorabelia that decorateds the walls.

The pub is off of the main roads and the pedestrian ally in front makes it a great place to hang out. Highly recomended.

    Carrete: Charming Hidden Bar

by Matravel Written Dec 28, 2005

We were lucky to have a Colombian couple as our hosts. Among other spots, they took us to a charming neighborhood in Bogota, Usaquen. This section of Bogota is kind of far from the center and it seemed to me a whole different village within the big city lights.
Anyway, as were looking for a place to have pre-dinner drinks, our friends suggested this charming place owned and attended (literally) by Mr Olaya and his wife.

And here's where the fun starts.

To get in you need to ring a bell...as you would to get in a house. The cafe-restaurant-tertulia is in fact set inside Mr Olaya's house, in his dinning room.

The bar literally comes to your table, since Mr. Olaya prepares the drinks, one by one, IN YOUR TABLE. And he's actually very good. He masterly prepared our drinks while describing exactly what he was doing. Mojito, Alexander Baileys, Kamikaze de Luca and Tequila Sunrise were one by one executed in front of use while Mr Olaya told us anecdotes about the Havana Club (brought back from Havana by his daughter), the tequila (he learned to drink and shake tequila in Mexico city) and the rum (a fine rum from France).

Of course we needed something to accompany the drinks, so he suggested the empanadas his wife makes inside the adjacent room..the kitchen.

Obviously the service was impeccable, food was very good (home made food is rarely bad) and the drinks were generous and well done.

Even if it sounds incredible, Mr Olaya manages to rent the place (and attend it) for large events.

The Carrete is open mon-sat 12pm-1am, sun 12am-5pm. I would advice to call before heading on a Holiday.

EL SITIO BAR RESTAURANTE: EL SITIO BAR... the very best rumba in Bogota

    by daphne77 Written Oct 1, 2004

El Sitio is something more than a pub, it's the best live latin music I found, with great singers and a band of over 12 people who play sooo good!!! the place is wonderful, always full of people, very animated...you can have a drink, "El sitio" is the best blue cocktail... , you can dance very good salsa, you can eat very well, and people treats you as a friend... it's really a place you have to know. many VIPs go to this place to relax and have a good time when they are in Bogotà...try it...
