BE PREPARED TO LEARN ABOUT A DIFFERENT CULTURE. aLMOST ALL THE PEOPLE IN ECUADOR ARE NICE. iF U ASK A QUESTION TO SOMEBODY, THEY'LL DEFINATELY RESPOND U AND HELP U OUT. GO TO THE ATACAMES IF U WANNA GO TO THE BEACH. ALL THE *** I DID WITH MY FRIENDS WAS CRAZY. BUT MOST OF ALL THE *** I DID WITH MY COUSINS, LIKE A FIGHT WE GOT IN WITH SOME CRAZY PUNKS IN AMAZONAS... IT WAS THE BEST.

visit the Galapagos if you have the chance ! This place is so unique ! I have never felt so close with nature as there. It makes you realize how special nature is and can be and how hard we all have to try not to disturb it ! Seeing Lonesome Jorg, the most famous tortoise of the Galapagos and the only survivor of his kind because of human action, made me very sad.

Visit Quito, the capital and make contact with local pleople. They are so nice. Foundes memory is at one point I was in a car, and we crossed women working in a field. They wore long blue and white long dress open on the side. They were so nicely dressed I couldn't believe they were working in those traditional dresses.

Take a transportation(usually a Taxi for around a total of $15U.S.negotiable) to ' La Mitad del Mundo' Literally 'The Middle of the World,' this monument marks the spot where in 1736 Charles-Marie de la Condamine's scientific expedition made measurements that verified the location of the equator. Hosting a model of colonial Quito, a planetarium, a ethnographic museum, and a number of restaurants, this monument is a very popular attraction.

Go to Quito. It is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. We went on a 'Safari' tour to Cotopaxi. Safari is located in Qutio in the new town, tele:(593-2) 552-505. We had an english speaking guide who knew what he was doing. The trip included transportation and food. Cotopaxi is a gorgeous glacier peaked mountain. It is actually the tallest active volcano in the world. We only hiked up to the glacier and played on it. I loved every second of it, even the ride back home when my companion had altitude sickness.

Visit the jungle! The region I visited is referred to as the 'Choco'. I volunteered at Aldea Salamandra which is located near the town of Puerto Quito, just a little north of Santo Domingo. The web site for Aldea is www.aldeasalamandra.comIf you volunteer at Aldea, it only costs US$55 for the week which includes meals and lodging. You also go on great excursions in the afternoons, and the place itself and the surrounding area is glorious! The friendly people. I have never encountered such helpful, genuine people. My spanish is awful, but it didn't matter, I was treated kindly and Ecuadorians are eager to communicate with you, so the language barrier soon disappeared. I miss Ecuador a great deal. I miss the nice people and the wonderful diversity of the country. I am definitely going back - to live!

Go to Cuenca. It's beautiful and quiet, the people are friendly and there's plenty to do and see / lots of coffee shops to sit in and watch the local world go by. The surrounding villages are charming and well worth a visit if you're souvenier hunting. Go to the hot springs at Papallacta too. Lounging in the hot water pools, surrounded by mountains and volcanos is a great way to relax. They're also far less crowded than those at Banos. Note that the springs are quite a walk from the bus stop, so do keep going until you get there. I thought I'd gone the wrong way, even though there isn't an alternative road to take. Riding on the roof of the train down Nariz del Diablo - and the train de-railing on a small wooden bridge. Sitting in the hot springs at Papallacta, having the place almost to myself. The view of Cotapaxi as you fly from Cuenca to Quito. Sit on the right hand side of the...
