Going to the top of Cotapaxi,...

by Jon_Nordmark

Going to the top of Cotapaxi, 19,344 feet high, is thrilling. Starting off at 11:00 PM, wrapped in four layers of clothing. Walking through snow with a small group, tied together with ropes, guided by headlamps. Watching the sun come up, turning the sky red, over the huge glaciers. The round trip from basecamp at 15,000 feet takes about 10 or 12 hours.

by DesertRat

Try out the little towns along the Pacific Coast. We went to Sua, which is 30 or 40 kms southish from Esmaraldas, which, by the way, is one of S. America's more unpleasant cities. Sua, however, was superb with wonderful beaches and sunsets. Whether it's still like that some 23 years on is anyone's guess. Photo: Sunset at Sua

Picturesque conditions...

by EricLe_Rouge

We usually (want to) forget that lots of local people are living in miserable conditions.I find it most deplorable that some tourists consider this as ' picturesque' conditions.
