Cotopaxi is located very close to La Cienega making this an excellent base for exploring the famous Andean peak and the national park named after it. French scientists studying Cotopaxi in the 18th century came to La Cienega after the volcano's destructive eruption forced them to move farther away from its fury.

La Cienega is an ideal base of exploration for the beautiful region knows as the Quilotoa Loop. The other small towns along the pathway of the loop do not have this type of quality accommodation choices, so if you'd like to be in a picturesque setting that still offers modern amenities and is well situated to see the sights along the loop, then you've found the perfect spot (and the prices are reasonable as well).
