I did read in my travel guide book that Guinea Pig (Cuy) is a speciality in Ecuador.
So I wanted to try eating it and it tasted great, a bit like rabbit but sweeter.
Later on I told this at my doctor, and he told me that also had Guinea Pigs. Of course not to eat. He kept them in the same cages as his rabbits.
He told me that a Guinea pig calls when he is hungry, a rabbit does not. So the advantage when you put rabbits and Guinea pigs together in a cage, you can never forget to feed them, the Guinea pigs will call you.

As I walked around the hacienda, I discovered some small cages in the rear of the garden.
In the cages there were several Guinea pigs.
You should know that in Ecuador Guinea pigs are a delicacy.
I tried Guinea pig, (named Cuy in Ecuador) in Banos (see my Banos page).
I can not remember if these Guinea pigs were on the menu in the restaurant, maybe these small animals are only for special occasions or fot special guests.
PS The Cuy in Banos tasted delicious.

We had dinner in the main dining room.
The menu was kind of international, of course as this a better place, the prices are higher then elsewhere.
