La Choza restaurant is conveniently located just off the two parks at the center of Ibarra, at the corner of Calle Sucre and Oviedo. It has good Ecuadorean cuisine, friendly and prompt service and a casual atmosphere. The soup/stew is especially good. Most of the diners are locals.
The restaurant funds and/or is the home base for a number of community service programs: a youth group, music and dancing programs. It's a model that's used in a number of cities in South America, and provides a sustainable source of funds for programs so they don't need to rely on outside grants. For example, see the youth group's web site: http://www.juventudibarra.tk
Favorite Dish: Chicken, rice and corn are their staple and it's fine; our favorite dish was a stew that included chicken, potato and a lot of vegetables.
