Our guide told us that at the highest point of the hike, there was a cabin. And that was something to look forward during the difficult parts of the walk.
But, I thought on a cabin like in Germany or Austria, where you can drink some soup, or eat something. But Oh no, it was no cabin at all, just a kind of wooden summer house. At that place we did eat our lunch packet (made by the hotel in Otavalo).
And from that point we had a splendid view over the lake.
And we did also see the all mighty Cotopaxi Volcano on the horizon. And thanks to my big tellers I could make a picture of this giant volcano (5897 metres). More information on this Volcano on my Cotopaxi page (will be made in the near future)

The volcano lake was also surrounded by high mountains, some of them the summit was completely covered with snow.
But that was not always good to see, as the path twisted through the sloping landscape, and also because of the big clouds which covered the mountain summits.

This picture proves what I have written earlier; there were two islands in the volcano lake.
And if you make the picture bigger you can notice a white spot under the biggest island (on the right side), well that was the boat which was cruising around the lake.
As you can see the view and the scenery was just great, and it was changing all the time as we walked around the lake.

During our walk around the volcano lake, we had a splendid view over the lake.
Notice how blue the water looked. And in the middle of the lake there were two islands, I know on this picture it looks as there is only one, but believe there are two.
And from the restaurant, near the entry you could make a boat ride on the lake and around these islands.
At certain moments I have thought why I did not take the boat ride; it would not have been so tiring. But then I would have missed these beautiful views.

The scenery around the volcano lake was great, but also the plants and flowers were very special and beautiful.
Of course also because of the high altitude (3200 - 3400 m above sea level), we did see some special plants which only grow at high level.

The day before, our guide told us about an excursion to a volcano lake, and the walk around.
To be honest I thought, hmm . . . a walk around a lake, flat paths around a lake, and the same views for hours, yes a bit boring . . .
But as soon we arrived near the volcano lake, I did see that the landscape was marvellous, and it was not flat at all.
The scenery was just great.
