Vilcabamba is a quite little village, were the visitors can relax. You will find some spas, were you can get massages and other treatments for your body. For people who like to walk, there are different hiking routes which you can explore. About 25 Kilometers north from Vilcabamba you will find the National Park Podocarpus. It's worth to explore...

Throughout the Vilcabamba valley, you can't help but notice the uniquely-shaped peak - the Mandango peak ("Sleeping God" or "Sleeping Inca").From certain angles, the top of Mandango looks like a face looking upwards to the sky, or presumably 'heaven'. From other areas, it is said to look like a sleeping man or woman, presumably an Inca. You can...

Vilcabamba Restaurants

  • Wild Pizza & Wicked Burgers -- Veggie...

Charlito's is run by an American expat, his local Vilcabambina wife and their family. It's a new place, with simple and basic decor. Food is simply tasty. Atmosphere is laid back, with a nice international music mix at moderate volume.Charlito's menu is short and sweet. I am definitely a fan of shorter menus, as they indicate more focus on house...

  • Great view and fresh food

Best restaurant in Ecuador with fresh food, three times a day. Great view. Kaesespatzen (german/swiss/austrian dish), after a long time travelling in Latin America.

Vilcabamba Transportation

  • From Chachapoyas/Peru to...

The route is interesting if you want to see Chachapoyas and continue your tour further north to Ecuador. The tour can be done in 2 days, with a stop in San Ignacio. Although often described differently, the problem is not the transport in Peru, as there is constant traffic of collectivos.1. Chachapoyas-Bagua Grande (day 1)type: Collectivo (shared...

  • Another way into Peru: Vilcabamba to...

If you time it correctly, you can go from Vilcabamba to Chachapoyas in as little as two days of NON-CONTINOUS travel. I assume you can take the same route either direction. For purpose of this tip, I will give you the information from the direction I traveled: Vilcabamba to Chachapoyas. Now, it's been a while so excuse the lack of town names in...

Vilcabamba Warnings and Dangers

LADIES BE WARNED: During Carnaval festival I stayed at the Ruinas de Quinara hosteria, where I was targeted as sexual prey by the NEW owner's son. This man was charming and seemed genuine, but when he saw I had a little confidence in him, he forced himself into my room and onto me. Do not stay at this hosteria! Even though this man isn't always...

    Horseriding near Vilcabamba

by darthmilmo Written Oct 12, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Vilcabamba is known as an excellent place to chill out and spend a few days relaxing. However, for those with a bit more energy, there are several companies that offer horseriding tours of the region. This range from simple day tours to multi-day trek. The rentals are not that bad so shop around.
