As in all Ecuadorian towns there are a number of unfinished houses in Mindo.
People in Ecuador don?t wait and save up money to build a house. They start when they some of the money and then build more and more when they earn more. But sometimes they leave the town before the houses are complete, or they just never finish the house. Hence there are many foundations to be found in villages and in fields.
Fondest memory: Furthermore, you don?t have to pay taxes for your house if it isn?t complete, so therefore many houses look incomplete. It is not unusual to see brick houses, with metal bars sticking up the top; these can be used when or if they decide to built another level, or just as many do to hang the clothesline between.
