The place is a little out of the way though, and the prices a little to steep for a budget travlers ($5 for enchiladas). The portions are small, but the food of good quality and tasty. This is a cute little place located off the Amazonas. They seemed to have a wide variety of food - from pasta to soups and salad. The service was great and I cannot speak highly enough of about how kind and patient they were with my halting Spanish.
I had a wonderful seafood salad for lunch - it was actually so large that I didnt have dinner that day! Of course I had fried bananas for the perfect end to a perfect lunch. Pim's restaurant is located on the Panecillo, a hill overlooking Quito. It is a beautiful restaurant, and the views of the city will take your breath away (try to get a table on the porch overlooking the city). It is a pretty formal restaurant, and the food is expensive for Ecuador, but reasonable if you come from the US or Europe (about what you'd pay back home). The food is a selection of various dishes, but aim for the platos typicos of Ecuador. They make several delicious dishes, and well worth it. And make sure to stretch your belt for some appetizers. Overall, Pim's is a good experience in Quito, from the ambiance to the views to the food. A great introduction to the cuisine of Ecuador.
When my group ate there, we started with several appetizers. These included two kinds of empanadas (one of white corn called "molochitos", and one of plantains), and a selection of home-made sausages. For the main course, I had a dish of chorizo sausage with potato-cheese pancakes, cabbage and a fried egg. The whole meal had a salsa on the table called aji, made from tree tomatoes. It had a distinct aroma and flavor, and it was put on virtually everything we ate. Theme: MexicanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Gral. Very nice, clean, romantic setting with both indoor and outdoor seating and descent wine selection. In Feb. 2005, the pizza ran btw $3.70-$7.20. However, the atmosphere is better than the food and the service. Middle Eastern joint which serves up super meaty shawarmas for descent prices (about $2). The food is pretty good and fast, and it does the trick if your hungry. The food is a little more than a snack, but less than a big meal. Indoor and outdoor seating (outdoors you'll see plenty of gringos trying out the hookas). This restaurant is located in the posh Hilton Colon Quito Hotel. Although the hotel was a touch to expensive for my tastes, I did frequent their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet on Sundays. Hours for the buffet are Sunday from noon till 2:30pm. Its a touch expensive at $15, but well worth it to splurge. The service was great and the wait staff spoke english.
Just about everything on the buffet is good, although I don't eat meat, so I didnt try the three varities of cuy (roasted guinea pig but I did take many photos of the dishes. *grin*) All the pasta dishes seemed very fresh, and the fruit was almost devine. The dessert bar was wonderful with about thirty options of sweets. Leave a Comment

On the outskirts of town, heading north towards Otavalo, you will see many vendors that roast pigs. I haven't had the guts to stop at one of these yet, but they do make for great pictures!
Haven't eaten there - but I imagine you can't get much more than pork. Leave a Comment Theme: Street VendorPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensive

I love the atmosphere, its so cozy!!! and food is so delicious!!!!! you can have typical japanese food such as sushi, but as well local ecuatorian dishes or once a week they have barbecue. actually breakfast is delicious as well. the owner is a really nice japanese photographer an his girlfriend who is an artist. They opened the restaurant in January 2006. The chef cook is brilliant! the prices were higher than average in ecuador. but of course, it's delicious japanese food...

As I noticed in different South American countries, calory forms the large part of the meal. Rice and potato together? yeps, like my home-country. Beef stew with different leaves and mild spices and capsicum-cream sauce.
