The pyramids of Cochasqui are around 10 km away.
Cochasqui was built by the Cara Indians before the inca conquest and have been forgotten untill recently. The area was declared a national archaeological site in 1977 and currently the excavations have begun.
In Cochasqui there are 15 low, truncated grasscovered pyramids. Some of them are almost 100 meters long.
There are also some life-size houses modeled after indigenous arcitectural style, built using the ancient methods (no nails ect). Inside there are indigenous furnishings and cooking utentils and guinea pigs run around the houses (a traditional delicacy).
Outside there are a garden with andean plants used for food, medicine and cerimonial purposes.
You will also find alpacas grassing the areas.
