  • As with most towns, natural water is always a big attraction. Cuenca doesn’t have a big lake nor is it a seaside resort but it does have a swiftly running river that is a great respite from the city center though it’s only a few steps away. Literally, you have to go down some steps to get to it but its well worth the effort. It feels like you’re not even in the city anymore and is a great place to relax. It’s what the locals do, you should try it too.

    Panama Hat
Cuenca produces fine ceramics and textiles but is best known for its handsome Panama hats. These finely made straw hats got their name from the country to which they were first exported en masse. But its a product originally from Ecuador!! The first hats were made by hand in the coastal towns of Jipijapa and Montecristi. But in Cuenca as well you find some really good once. On a tour of Homero Ortega & Sons (Av. Gil Ramirez Davalos 3-86) you'll see how palm leaf fibers are transformed into elegant headware. You'll also have the opportunity to buy one for 10$ up to 250$.
