If your appetite feels lazy and unadventurous while in Cuenca, I recommend La Fornace. It is a small chain of spit-spot clean pizzerias that also serve superb ice cream. The pizza is not generic or bland. The spinach pizza I ordered had quite a personality, with no tomato sauce at all, and a good punch of garlic. by momaw This is the Tinku restaurant and hostal in Cuenca, Ecuador. We stayed here for 10 days, met some great people and also celebrated Xmas here. By the way, it is only $4 per person to stay here. Leave a Comment Theme: Local

I would call this place (whose name I never found) : "El taller del artista" ! Indeed, an artist runs the place and has transformed this place in a huge artistic restaurant. Few people come here, and you can enjoy its width and peaceful atmosphere...
1 USD for a good "almuerzo" (lunch), you won't find it everywhere in Cuenca ! 1 USD pour un bon "almuerzo" (dejeuner), vous ne trouverez pas ca partout a Cuenca ! Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Juan Montalvo 7-43

This place has all-day breakfast as well as international and German specials for lunch or dinner. Also is a mellow place to get some drinks and they have 2 for 1 specials each day of the business week. Good service and large, warm interior with lots of windows, magazines and papers (in Spanish and German). Real coffee in different forms (tinto, con leche, eiskaffe - iced coffee with vanilla ice cream), hearty banana pancakes, great homemade bread and jam etc. Leave a Comment Theme: German/AustrianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Jaramillo and Benigno Malo

It's not the cheapest one in town (from 1.85 USD to 2.50 USD), but I really liked the calm of the place, the really nice juice and coffee and the design ! Ce n'est pas le moins cher (de 1.85 a 2.5 USD), mais j'ai bien aime le calme qui y regne, le jus de fruit et le cafe, tout autant que le design ! You never tasted the excellent colombian food before ? Never drank "Aguardiente", this typical colombian alcohol, really close to "absynth" ? This is the place for you... Vous n'avez jamais goute a la bouffe colombienne ? Vousn'avez jamais bu de l' "aguardiente", cet alcool colombien proche de l'absynthe ? Alors, venez ici
All the dishes ("arepas") are good and cheap (maximum 2 USD per meal), but definitely, you have to spend money in the drinks !! Tous les plats ("arepas") sont bons et pas chers (maxi 2 USD), mais, definitivement, vous devez claquer un peu d'argent dans les boissons ! I found this new place that is fun and wonderful to eat at. The decorations are beautiful and they have a upstairs for larger parties or just a cozy spot.
I like the NAN. I am a big bread eater so this is always great for me. They serve 3 or 4 different sauces with it so I can really nibble. I had something else that was spinich and cheese but do not remember the name. It was yummy. The food was ok in here, but we ordered Caipirinhas, which are made from lime, ice, cachaca alchohol and sugar. Ours arrived made with a little rum and orange juice. We politely asked what it was and were told it was the correct drink. After 20 minutes of pretty amazing rudeness by the waiter and some shouting by the manager, the manager told us it was too expensive for them to use the right ingredients, so they make it differently. We asked for it to be changed and were refused, and eventually we just told them we wouldn´t pay for it. They were super rude to us, and then the garlic bread we had asked for 4 times arrived after the bill did. Hilarious.
The burritos are apparently good, although my salad was decidedly average. Leave a Comment Theme: MexicanPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: cnr Calle Larga & Luís Cordero, city centre

Nice ambiance with 3 separate rooms and tons of Mexican-themed pictures and paintings. Inside the courtyard of the Casa Azul. Open for lunch until 3 pm and then again from 6 -11 pm.
Really nice restaurant with great authentic Mexican food including tortilla soup, chiles nogales and enchiladas con mole. Also have to try the Michelada which is a very refreshing drink: light beer with ice, lemon juice, salt and chile pepper to your taste.
