we don't have alpaca fur
Needless to say since the bus does not drop you off at the door to the hostel, you'll want a backpack to carry your gear. Come to think of it, you'll hope to be walking around Chimborazo for a few days and you'll definitely need a backpack if that is the case. Sturdy hiking boots are a must on this rugged terrain and make sure they are water proof. Likewise, you'll need good rain gear and lots of layers to keep dry and warm. Weather in the Andes is highly unpredictable so best to come prepared for anything. A wide angle lens is great for getting the big picture of the vast Andean landscape and a zoom gets you some great shots of the wildlife, even when it's not so wild, like our alpaca friend. If you are planning on doing the Vicuña Trail you'll need a good tent, one that doesn't leak and is resistant to wind as this is one windy and wet place when it wants to be. There are no hostels...
