Urbina is about two miles off the Pan American Highway, between Ambato and Riobamba. It's roughly halfway between the two so it should theoretically cost about 50 cents since the full hour trip runs $1. If you are lucky enough to be leaving from a bus terminal that might be the case but we had to flag a bus down on the Pan American, many of which were going all the way to Cuenca and they didn’t seem thrilled to give up one of their seats (if they even had any!) for such a short fare. When we did get one, we were more than happy to pay $1 to get where we wanted to go. When we left the hostel and were headed to Cuenca, while waiting for a bus, a person stopped in a brand new car and offered to drive us to Riobamba for a fee. We jumped in and as it turned out he was going all the way to Cuenca to deliver the new car we were getting a ride in. We bargained over the price and we got a ride all the way there for $10 for both of us. It was not only cheaper than the bus; it was a lot quicker too! I got to practice my meager Spanish on the trip while D slept in the back seat.
