los banos - the crossing of mountain and selva

by hanspeter_W.

los banos is most beautiful place in ecuadoras it is located in junction of the high andes mountains and the rainforest areaBañosBaños is famous for its hot baths, waterfalls and endless activities within a small territory. In the city is found the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Holy Water with its museum, as well as lookouts, bars and inns filled with commodities. Adventure sports like rafting, bungee jumping, mountain biking to name a few are a specialty in this town and the proximity of the Oriente, through the Route of the Waterfalls to Puyo is one of the most exciting adventures for your stay in this town. It is the site of departure for expeditions to Puyo, Misahuallí, the waterfalls of Agoyán and Inés María and to the peaks of Tunguarahua and the "Pailón del Diablo". In Baños you can also find a small Zoo and a Reptile Zoo.

latacunga the door to the high andes

by hanspeter_W.

Latacunga (2,850m) is the capital of the Cotopaxi Province, with some 55,000 inhabitants. This is not an invigorating town, but it is a good base point for some interesting excursions such as the Cotopaxi volcano. The city has been destroyed three times in the past by the Cotopaxi volcano. In 1,742; 1,768 and in 1877. The volcano's activity is zero at the moment and other eruptions are not expected for at least some decades more.In Latacunga the central plaza, Parque Vicente León, has beautiful well preserved gardens. Others similar to this one are Parque San Francisco and La Laguna known also as "Lago Flores".At Sánchez de Orellana and Abel Echeverría is the Casa de los Marqueses de Miraflores, which is set inside a beautiful colonial mansion. Each room of this fine mansion is a small museum which has different exhibits of Colonial art, the Mama Negra festivities, archaeology, etc. It is...

Ambato (full form, San Juan de Ambato) is a city in located in the central Andean valley of Ecuador[1]. Lying on the banks of the Ambato River, the city also stands beneath several tall mountains. It is the capital of the province of Tungurahua, at an elevation of 2,577 meters above sea level. The population is 354,095 (INEC, 2007). otavalo

by hanspeter_W.

VISIT THE iNDIAN VILLAGE OF OTAVALO,FAMOUS FOR ITS CHOICE OF HANDICRAFTS..VERY BEAUTIFUL WAY FROM QUITO TO OTAVALOOtavalo is a largely indigenous town in the Imbabura Province of Ecuador. The town, which is in a valley, is surrounded by the peaks of Imbabura 4,610m, Cotacachi 4,995m, and Mojanda volcanoes. The indigenous Otavaleños are famous for weaving textiles, usually made of wool, which are sold at the famous Saturday market. Although the largest market is on Saturday, there is a very wide range of wares available throughout the week in the Plaza de los Ponchos, and the many local shops. Otavalo was an area made up principally of farming communities, but with the growth of tourism, the town has begun to focus more on the making of handicrafts which have made the Saturday market a popular stop with visitors to Ecuador. Tourism has become the town's main industry and as a result there...

El Panecillo for awesome views

by ddbleu

Overlooking Quito, this monument has great views and you can see where the Old Town and New Town are divided. I didn't pay extra to go up into the statue. You'll see the usual vendors selling tourist souvenirs. It's about a 20 minute drive from downtown, depending on how bad the traffic is.

PAPALLACTA TERME

by slometa

Thermal baths - Papallacta - on 3.200 m. Best to visit in the evening, when it's possible to enjoy it under the clear sky. Be prepared for the temperature difference - air temp. cca 5°C, water around 39°C!

Chilling on the Beach

by JennJenn

I adored Montanita. It was a cute little town. Just a couple of blocks of touristy hotels. Very big with the surfer crowd. It's supposed to be some of the best surfing in Ecuador. My friend who was with me did a bit of swimming. The town is very laid back. Lots of rustic hotels with thatched roofs and hammocks and cosy wee bars. I only spent a day there, but I wish I could have stayed a week! I've got some photos and more over here: Go on, Click it!

climbing Ecuador's mountain's safely

by macabro

This is not something to be taken lightly. First you should be in good physical condition, and experience in the mountains is what counts. I strongly recommend going with OLA Adventures who have very good, experienced guides. I recommend this company for their local knowledge and experience to get you around Ecuador and especially the mountains safely.

Go to Quilotoa lake and surrounding area

by BE001903

We booked a tour with Julio Verne Travel to the Quilotoa crater lake. We drove there with the owner of the travel agency (he picked us up at our hotel in Banos ). As this guy is very knowledgeable on Ecuador we got to see and learn a lot along the way. The road getting to the crater lake was definitly worthwhile (lots of scenic views and lots of photo opportunities of daily country life) . We were also in luck as there were festivities for Corpus Christi. We also stopped in La posada de Tigua to have a short lunch (seemed like a nice place to stay as well, the owners are extremely friendly and their home clean and with an authentic feel to it.

Stay in the Jungle

by BE001903

We stayed in the Cotococha lodge near Tena. although our stay was very nice. We had a two day programm which we enjoyed very much. I'd recommend you go further into the jungle as you will see more birds and other animals. When you are as near to Tena as we were the number of animals you see is limited.
