There are private cars with drivers at the docks when you get off the boat, I did not check the prices on these but they seem like they may take you to a few more places than the regular bus tour. There are also some taxies. Just know where you are going and don't go into a mine feild.
You can either go with LAN Chile (Santiago then down and across) or direct from the UK on the military flight - though its pricey and they cant guarantee the seats.Landrover or horse!
Since the Dock is too small for a huge cruise ship they transport you to shore with these small boats they call tenders.
