DEVIL ISLAND - TEUFELSINSEL - ILES DU SALUT
these are the names of a tiny island off the coast of French Guyana, an island that once used to be a prison-island untill the year 1948. Captain Dreyfuss was kept in prison here as well as "Papillon", who wrote a book about it, and Hollywood made even a movie about Papillon's story, starring Dustin Hoffmann.
On the island you can still see some remains of the former prison, there is a small restaurant (and maybe even a hotel, but I am not sure about the hotel).
Take a walk: 1-2 hours should be enough, when you want to see all the details of the ruins and the places on the beach, that were described in the book.
Another thing you should considder, when you arrive by cruiseship: the pier of devil's Island is much too small for even a smaller cruiseship, so you will loose a lot of time for the tenderservice !

I am sorry for the bad quality of my pics here, but all of them were scanned out of a S-8-film, a film that is 8mm wide and 4 mm high.
